for the 16 million that was being offered last year, yes we should have... ive lost faith in him, were not a team that can afford to have our best player be a health risk...

Any chance of a poll please mods? Simply whether you would sell Ashton now and cut your losses or keep him for the coming season?

Re: Ashton top of Stoke's shopping list
have been saying forever now, when he is fit he is absolute class and we must give him one last shot to prove it to everyone. I would be gutted if we sold him as i belive if fit all season he will get 15+ goals and make the starting 11 at the world cup.
His intial injury was never sorted out but hopefully now that is behind him. Hack said the word was that he is in the best shape of his life and if this is true we could have a very special stirke force next season

Re: Ashton top of Stoke's shopping list
Individually there may be a case for this, but for me he's a poor team player and the team has looked worse on the rare occasions he's played. I honestly don't think necessarily we'd miss him if he was gone, which he pretty much has been over the last 3 years anyway.Bobby Orangeboom wrote:Dean Ashton is West Ham's best Player, F.A.C.T.

Can't agree with that and I think it does a dis service to the players who have done a cracking job for us in his absence.
Better then Parker, Upson or Green?

when he's healthy... im done with him, does every 1 realize that in the past 3 YEARS he's played 35 league games for us? averages almost 12 games a year for some 1 whos supposed to be our best player... id rather have a lesser striker whos fit than a better striker who isnt

Was this when playing with a pre Zola Cole or playing on his own up front under Curbs?Arch Dandy wrote: Individually there may be a case for this, but for me he's a poor team player and the team has looked worse on the rare occasions he's played.

To be honest though FK it's kinda irrelevant as the money made isn't likely to benefit the fans in any way.Fionn Kiely wrote:Any chance of a poll please mods? Simply whether you would sell Ashton now and cut your losses or keep him for the coming season?
The CB bloke said we'll use generated funds but I can't see it myself.
Re: Ashton top of Stoke's shopping list
You dont really know much about football do you ?Weren't that good before the injury anyway. Had potential but it still remains unrealised.
How anyone can claim he is far and away our most talented player is beyond me. Hasn't put in a sustained spell of good form in the three and a half years he's been here. For it to be suggested he is on a par with Upson and Green is an insult to them. To suggest he is far and away more talented, utter nonsense.
He won't be going anywhere though. Giving him a fat payrise last summer saw to that. Had we held our nerve last year and asked that he fully proved his fitness before he got a new deal, we'd have some flexibility now. As it is, he has a long term contract and can call the shots. If he suddenly goes from inconsistent crock to star striker, good for us. If we see more of the same, the error is compounded further.
Dean Ashton is the best player we have by a long way. If he does even half of what he is capable of, one of the top 4 will have him at the end of the year. He is as good as Shearer was at his age IMO and has the talent to become one of the best in the league.

But that's another arguement entirely..Dyltheiron wrote:

Zola & Clarke both know that he's our best Player AND that he doesn't play enough, let's see what they do..
Re: Ashton top of Stoke's shopping list
we all pretty much agree he's our best player (next to upson) but can we afford to always have our best player hurt?? its not like we have a list of world class strikers to jump right in when ashton picks up an injuryMajor wrote:

Re: Ashton top of Stoke's shopping list
Sort of agree with the rest of it but Ashton is 26. At that age, Shearer had won the Premiership with Blackburn, was top scorer in the Premiership (34 goals) and was top scorer in a major international tournament, in which he reached the semi-finals with England.Major wrote: He is as good as Shearer was at his age IMO .
