Steve Coppell has been sounded out.
I cant tell you how I know, sorry.
And for what its worth, I think he would be a fantastic choice.

Interesting....
so we have a shortlist of
Hoddle
Hughes
Curbs (?)

The shortlist is getting longer by the hour.

Too Nice, Too Small IMO
I'm surprised that Stuart Pearce, Slaven Billic and Martin Allen ain't on the list.

Thanks for the info Chalks, interesting
Do you know if it's on a short term deal or for the long run?
FWIW - agree, far worse candidates out there.

Re: Steve Coppell
Would have no problem at all if it was Coppell long term or short term. Hughes would be first choice for me but I like Coppell a lot.

Re: Steve Coppell
That sounds long-term, in that it's a manager who'd be okay with potentially going down a division next season (unlike, say, Hughes, who'd probably need to know that we're playing Premier league football in 2010-11).
I'd have some reservations, but he ticks a lot of the right boxes IMHO as well, in terms of experience (in either division), our ability to get him, hopefully a bit of stability et cetera. He's not a "marquee", exciting appointment, but for now we need to be realistic about exactly where we're at. I'd be in favour, all things considered. Not "wowed" at the concept, but in favour.

No I think that was his fortnight at Man City .carnage wrote:Didnt he quit Reading due to stress?
I just think he got tired of the attritional task of keeping Reading up / down / up with the Chairman selling players and refusing to spend - saying the club was ffor sale etc .
Coppell would be ok by me .Can't see him wanting to work for Sullivan though

Re: Steve Coppell
Think coppell could be decent long term, could he come in and get this lot motivated for the remaining games ??? not sure!
tbh i think whoever comes in is going to have problems with this bunch, mainly because of the cushy life they seem to have with
zola who is probably mates with all of them!
