So Ouston, according to your own stats we have scored more than the opposition in the majority of our games

Where did I say we hadn't ?

I mentioned we had struggled to score goals. Then Carnage went on a microscopic detailed analysis of my post.

We have struggled to score "goals." No more than one in 60% of our games. Do you think that we have been piling them in regularly ? I think there was a spell there when we didn't score more than 1 (8 games I think). Ergo BFS saying he thought (not my words) that we didn't convert enough chances so he went on a shopping spree.

Fkcu me talk about being pedantic !!

So, if we've signed 2 attackers and hardly had a chance to see them sort said problem, then why raise the issue of the scoring in the first place?

It's like complaining about our full back situation a few weeks after signing Ashley Cole and Fabio.

You're just a grumpy old b*stard

Far too attacking. I'm thinking Phil Bardsley and Tony Hibbert.

And yes I am a grumpy old sod...but not tonight....had a fkcuing great time...met some great people and got offered a bartending gig in Denver. (Not sure if he was serious but I'll follow up for sure)....

Ha It's not pedantic though... You're just wrong!!

We haven't struggled to score goals... Statistically we're one of the highest scorers in the league, not far from a two goal a game average and haven't gone two games without finding the back of the net.

Haven't scored as many goals as perhaps we should have...I would say that's true, haven't been as clinical in front of goal as we should have... yes I'd say that's true.

But to say we've struggled to score is just incorrect...the stats just don't back it up in any way shape or form....

I admit I've started singing that at home - much to my wife's annoyance. She is dreading me singing it at their concert at the Emirates on June the 4th.

Nah

you would like to prove me wrong but in the total number of games played, we have 21 (just recounted) games where we have scored 1 or haven't scored at all. In those 20 games I think I counted 8 where we haven't scored even 1.

Banging in some 4 goals games distorts the average, but it is what it is, an average. And yes we are "above averages" and I am not discounting those goals.

However in over half (62% is over half despite what Carnage wants to believe) we have scored less than the mighty average.

Like Bob says them are plain stats and you can't deny them. You can however, move them around to suit your argument. We haven't scored more than our opponents in over 60% of our games as Carnage quoted yesterday.

Yes we're top. Yes, winning all your games 1-0 will win you the title. Not long ago I seem to remember the chants something like Boring Arsenal, Arsenal Boring...but I could be mistaken.

I'm glad for everyone who goes to games, ask Bob and the rest of us, sometimes I would like to watch a God-awful boring game if I could go to the Boleyn and have a couple of beers with long lost friends, or new ones even. (Well maybe not hd 1 but I digress ). We have struggled to score goals in lots of games. Over 20 in fact. Now that might be the norm, I might be caught up in the PL "hype" of it beng an exciting league. Me and a mate were talking and we feel good defending is a long last art.

But sometimes as the late Danny Blanchflower said (and for those who never saw him play, talking about Martin Peters being 10 years ahead of his time, the script was written by Blanchflower) “Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom”

Why are you including games that we've scored in to prove your point that we struggle to score goals....

we score 1.53 goals per game.
the goal median is 1.
a median lower than the mean implies that the goal distribution is asymmetric, and that the majority of times we score less than the average of 1.53 games, meaning that scoring a lot is not really what we generally do.

SJB

Well if I take them out people will say I have distorted the figures and to be fair all games count. Even the ones that we scored several times.

It doesn't alter facts that over 60% of the time we don't score a lot of goals. And I was told that in 40% we do, so that's all right.

I have tried to be fair, offer both sides of the coin, to agree we're top, to agree we are on target. i just am not impressed with how we're getting there. But that's fine for those who see getting promoted by hook or by crook is the best thing for us, and I have agreed that keeping Tonka, Noble and Green is a key to that. I don't want to come across as someone who looks only at one point to the exclusion of all others.

That would make me RARS (or Pinky) and I'm not sure I'd like that..

On a serious note, Ouston, do you believe that I want to see us get promoted at all costs and that it's the be all and end all of everything?

Mate if you'd have said from the start "we don't score a lot of goals" then I doubt anyone would have had issue.

But saying "we struggle to score" when we're amongst the leagues top scorers and have hit the back of the net in a vast majority is just baffling. Teams that struggle to score will always be down the bottom of the table because ...you know...they struggle to score and goals win games.

PS - We're not top and we're not on Fat Sams 2 points-a-game Target.
