May seem a stupid question. If e/w odds are 7/2. This means if the horse comes first i get the odds of 7/2. Do i get the same odds if it comes in second or are the odds shortened?

First of all, when you bet each way, you're actually placing two bets. One on the win, and one on the place.

If you're betting on a horse and it says 7/2 - E/W 1/2 odds 1-2 then this means that the odds for the win are 7/2 and half the odds for a second placed finish. You have to put one bet on the win and one on the place.

So if you want to bet £10 on the race and you want it each way, you actually put enter the bet as £5 E/W.

For this you are putting on one bet of £5 for the win @ 7/2
and one bet of £5 for the place at 7/4

If the horse wins, both bets pay. You get £5 x 7/2 for the win plus £5 x 7/4 for the place (plus both stakes back). You'd return £36.25
If the horse comes second, you lose the win part of the bet but get paid on the place bet (plus the place stake back) so you return £13.75

Some E/W bets might be 1/4 odds for a 1-2-3-4-5 place (like in the Grand National or something). The fraction is what you divide the win odds by for your place bet and the numbers will be the places that pay. (The place bet pays the same for each of the positions). You always have to place a win bet alongside the each way though.

Hope that isn't too confusing.

Is there any sense in blindly betting on the favourite in 3 different races as a treble?

Paddy Power have made a huge mistake on their "Goalscorer markets" tonight. Ashley Young is priced @ 66/1 for 1st or last goal, 25/1 to score at anytime and 40/1 to be Englands 1st scorer. Also if Van Persie scores 1st they refund losing goalscorer bets. To put it into perspective, he is 9/1 1st goal with William Hill. Time to fill your boots !!
