I swear if we hadn't beaten them twice, no-one would be suggesting this as "fair".

If Pompey cease to exist and are unable to fulfil their fixtures, their results will be expunged. Come the end of the season there will be a football league table consiting of 23 teams where everyone has played everyone else twice and the points accrued in those games determine league positions.

If Pompey cease to exist and are unable to fulfil their fixtures, and remaining games are awarded as wins to the surviving side, come the end of the season there will be a football league table consisting of 23 teams where some teams have twice beaten a non-existant 24th team, some have taken 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0 points from games against a non-existant 24th team, and then another clutch of clubs have played the non-existant 24th team once and have also been provided with three points for a game which never took place against a team which no longer exists.

There is no reasonable foundation for suggesting that overall, the second way is fairer. Yes players will have been fatigued, suffered injuries, and picked up suspensions in games against Pompey, but that does not outweigh the disparity between one team turning up, playing a game and losing or picking up a draw and another team being gifted three points without having to pull on their kit.

It will be sad to see them go if it happens, as a supporter it must be awful.

All in such a short time too, new stadium, FA Cup etc

Only a few years ago and they were talking about a new ground

Ah yes the bedpan stadium!

If you look closely you can see the masts of a sailing ship moored to the right hand side of the proposed stadium. That's HMS Warrior which was the first armour plated iron-hulled warship. It was built by Thames Ironworks and there's a model of it somewhere in the main reception at the Boleyn which cost a bomb, although nowhere near the £250,000 it is reputedly insured for.

What Pompey wouldn't give for £250k right now!

One of the problems with Pompey's new ground plans was that part of the proposed site belongs to the Navy and they refused to sell it.

Not sure if this has been said before and if it hasn't then someone will pull me up on the rules but maybe us and Southampton should bung Portsmouth enough cash to keep them going til the end of the season :D

We seem to be interested in several players and according to some, in discussions with;

Celik (formerly Rangers) who is a free agent and we were sniffing around in Jan.
Stephen Henderson, Pompeys reserve keeper with a view to a loan to Perm deal in the summer.
Jason Pearce - Pompey Defender, reported in this thread a few days ago, some say he is one of their better players.
Matt Mills - Leicester defender, had a fall out with Pearson, only bought in for 5.5M in the summer, all reports say this is a loan, with no permenant deal being mentioned.

From these, Celik, Pearce (if he is as promising as they say) would be good for us and Henderson would be a good back up to Greeno. I remember hearing has a promising future from his Bristol City days (anyone know more about him?)

Interesting days Gentleman (and Ladies of course!) Could it be WHU could actually benefit for once (at the loss of another team) or is :arry: waiting in the background?

It's the Southampton fans I feel for, they'll have to make Bournemouth or Brighton their local Derby.

Because its far more sensible than wiping out 38 results and completely changing the outcome for some clubs?

Bit more than that - about £1.5m , but your point emphasises the fact businesses don't go under for millions, they go under for 1p .Plenty of profitable businesses go to the wall because they run out of cash .

I was chatting with my old man tonight, a die hard Pompey fan and he had a good idea to stop us losing the 6 points we have got from them this season which would be to loan them some of our players with us paying the wages ...Piq has been there before, send Carew and Sears, maybe Stech to give him some game time. Would be within the rules.

Instead of buying or loaning players, haven't any of these clubs going into administration/ liquidation got a decent stand we could buy? Just replace the east stand with something bigger. Ibrox defo has some biggies. Do the same with London bridge in the US.

Can't help feeling that a lot of arguments against losing the points sound like they are coming from Sheff Utd.

If Pompey's games were expunged, regardless of when it occurs -even at 45 games, at the end of the season each team would have played the same amount of games, and have played each other twice.

If we aren't in the top two after that, then the reason is we are not good enough -simple. If we don't go up it will not because Pompey went bust - it will be because we failed to beat those clubs around us that really mattered.

Our destiny lies in our own hands, it always has. We are either good enough, or we are not. It's pretty simple really and we knew the rules and agreed to them, before we entered the competition.

Anything else sounds very bluntish to me.
