Olympics 2012 Matchball: The Albert






The highly awaited 2012 Olympics will take the stage between the 27th July and the 12th August. This would be the third time in the history of the Olympics that they are hosed by London. Six venues will host football matches in Olympics 2012, namely Wembley Stadium, Old Trafford, the Millennium Stadium, St James’ Park, Hampden Park and City of Coventry Stadium. Until now, 10 out of 16 total teams have been confirmed by their respective confederation, being Great Britain (host), South Korea, Gabon, Morocco, Egypt, Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, Switzerland, and Belarus.

The match ball for the 2012 Olympics is called The Albert which comes from the cockney rhyming slang for football (The Albert Hall). Robert Ashcroft beat off 12000 other entries to name the Olympics 2012 ball to have his idea implemented as The Albert in the ball manufactured by Adidas. The ball is white with details in pink, light-blue and yellow. The specifications of the ball can be seen below.
