Karren Brady’s football diary

WHEN players are seen regularly squaring up to each other on the pitch it’s cuckoo-time — a sure sign that spring is bringing with it the season’s climax.

That’s competitive tension, you say. But surely not when the cuckoos are in the same side.

Fans turn up to watch their men play for a well-integrated team, not to indulge in the preliminaries to a Derek Chisora fight.

You don’t have to be Mystic Meg to forecast that Mario Balotelli did a spot of eyeballing. But he’d lose it at a bring-and-buy stall.
SUNDAY

SPURS chairman Daniel Levy showed obstinacy when he refused to sell Luka Modric.

Toughing it out is the hardest thing for a chairman.

But today, Gareth Bale sent signals that Levy could be in for a summer that makes last year’s seem like a holiday.

Just before running Swansea dizzy Bale announces he would find it difficult to say ‘no’ to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The fight to keep manager Harry Redknapp, Bale, Modric and Emmanuel Adebayor could be tougher than Daniel’s in the lion’s den.

IT is in a spirit of inquiry that I join the millions asking what Gary Neville has done with his hair.

On Sky tonight it looks as if he has a nice black toupee. Trouble is it doesn’t fit too well — if, of course, he has one. Tell us, Gary.

In return, I’ll tell you you’re the most informative and knowledgeable commentator on TV and you don’t gloat about Man U’s unflurried progress towards the title.

MY anxieties are about my friend Alex McLeish at Villa.

He must think he’s on the brink of reliving last season when Birmingham were shredded by injuries and went down after appearing to be perfectly safe.

On top of this, he’s having to deal with the shocking news that Stiliyan Petrov has leukaemia.

I’ll be shouting a bit for Alex and a lot for his skipper.

GABBY LOGAN’S TV documentary ‘Sexism in Football?’ is excellent.

No one in the game doubts it exists, although some men are so prejudiced they still believe women should be seen and not heard.

It will take generations before sexism is overcome but I do believe our cause will be spurred on by the women’s football competition at the London Olympics and prove that women can know as much about football as men think they do.

Even so, former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez’s bet that there’ll be a female League manager by 2022 is wide of the mark. I think it will be in the next five years.

I spent my birthday with an ex-footballer, a current footballer and the world’s most talented footballer, in the world’s best restaurant.

But my favourite part of the day was finding out was I 43 and not the 44 I thought I was!

COMEDIAN James Corden has to be my favourite among West Ham’s fleet of celebrity fans.

After the defeat by Reading, our lounges were like mausoleums.

But James said: “I love the play-offs. If we have to go up that way, great. They’re really exciting.”

I believe we will go up by the first door, starting tonight at Barnsley. But thanks for the comforting thought, James.

The West Ham boss has come under increasing fire from unhappy fans who say his direct style of play is not the Upton Park way.

And the dissenting voices had been growing in number and volume as the Hammers’ grip on automatic promotion has become tenuous in recent weeks.

But Allardyce’s stuttering stars showed they can be artists as well as artisans by clinically crushing Barnsley at Oakwell.

Strikes by Kevin Nolan, Nicky Maynard and Mark Noble inside the first 35 minutes meant this one-sided contest was over by half-time.

And these three points did not just give the Hammers what was only their second win in eight league outings — it meant they racked up a new club record of 12 away wins in a season.

But extra pressure was piled on to Big Sam’s players before kick-off when they learned that second-placed Reading had increased their advantage over the Eastenders to seven points with a 2-0 triumph at home to 10-man Leeds.

But West Ham took it in their stride as they stormed to victory with a mixture of swagger and strength.

Nolan began the clinical taking-apart of the Tykes with a delightfully-worked opener on seven minutes.

Matty Taylor’s well-flighted corner was not dealt with by Barnsley’s dithering defenders, allowing Maynard to get a crucial flick-on to Nolan, who slotted home from close range for his 11th goal of the season.

The ex-Bolton midfielder came agonisingly close to what would have been his own and his side’s second only four minutes later when he brilliantly took Noble’s free kick in his stride and fired in a volley which flew inches the wrong side of keeper David Button’s left-hand post.

The lively Maynard stretched his side’s advantage on 23 minutes.

Once again, the eye-catching Nolan was heavily involved. He played a slick one-two with Maynard before the former Bristol City striker lashed a 25-yarder into the bottom corner.

Barnsley were on the ropes by this stage but their misery was compounded when they conceded a third 10 minutes before the break.

And, this time, they had nobody to blame but themselves for allowing Noble the chance to claim his eighth goal this term.

Button and winger David Cotterill, on loan from Swansea, got into a horrible mess by leaving an intended clearance to each other.

The alert Noble latched on to the loose ball before nonchalantly chipping home from 12 yards.

Portuguese winger Ricardo Vaz Te got the goal he so desperately craved to stretch the Hammers’ lead 10 minutes after the break when he slotted home a low drive after Button had only managed to palm away George McCartney’s rising angled drive.

While the Hammers celebrated, this was an absolute nightmare for the Tykes, who are now spiralling towards the drop zone after 10 defeats and only two wins in their last 13 games.

Manager Keith Hill says his side need one more victory to secure Championship safety.

BARNSLEY 0 - WEST HAM 4: SAM ALLARDYCE FINDS AWAY OUT

SAM ALLARDYCE can still lead West Ham to automatic promotion.

He just needs to convince his troops they are playing away for the rest of the season.

The Hammers strolled to a club record 12th win on the road as Barnsley were given the chop by Big Sam’s away day specialists.

First-half goals from Kevin Nolan, Nicky Maynard and Mark Noble helped condemn the Tykes to a ninth home defeat.

Allardyce said: “It was a measured, controlled performance with a lot of quality. It’s a terrific result that was well deserved. We’ve broken a club record, which I’m really pleased about for the players and our fans.

“We’ve given them something to cheer about all season away from home and it’s just a shame we can’t transmit that into our home form. Automatic promotion is still in sight.

“We were under that little bit more pressure because we knew Reading had won, so what a way to bounce
back with some outstanding goals.

Our forwards are scoring again which is very important in our bid to claw our way back into the top two.

“It’s as well as we’ve played away from home for an entire 90 minutes. It comes at just the right time.”

After taking 14 of the last 18 points on their travels, now all they have to do in their last five games is to start matching their stunning away form at Upton Park, where they’ve not won in their last six matches.

Birmingham are the Easter Monday visitors and Blues boss Chris Hughton can’t help but have been impressed by the Hammers.

Nolan launched the rout after seven minutes, poking home his 11th goal of the season from virtually under the bar as Maynard ****ed on Matt Taylor’s vicious in-swinging corner.

Maynard doubled the lead on 23 minutes, rounding off a slick 10-pass move with a stunning low drive.

Noble made it three 10 minutes before the interval as David Button got into a tangle trying to clear.

The keeper miskicked straight to the midfielder, who produced a perfect chip into an unguarded net.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has worked miracles to keep his side up on a shoestring and they are set to secure a seventh season in the second tier.

But they had only a long-range Craig Davies effort well saved by Robert Green to show for their effort.

Ricardo Vaz Te, who remains Barnsley’s top scorer on 12 after leaving in acrimonious style in January, rubbed salt into the wounds 10 minutes into the second half.

George McCartney’s curling effort was well saved by Button but it fell perfectly for Vaz Te to volley home his fourth goal in five games.

Then Maynard tried his luck from 30 yards, only to hit the bar.

Hill said: “We shot ourselves in the foot. Even John Wayne couldn’t have done what we did.

“The only positive was that it wasn’t a heavier defeat.”

WEST HAM 4 BARNSLEY 0: HOME HELP STILL THE KEY TO SAM

SAM ALLARDYCE can still lead West Ham into the Premier League – but only if he can translate their away form to Upton Park.

Reading’s victory earlier in the day meant it was imperative the Hammers won and they did so in spectacular style as three goals inside 35 minutes ended this encounter and left them three points behind second-placed Southampton.

The past few days have summed up West Ham’s season – mediocre or magnificent, depending on the venue.

Yesterday it was the latter and the Hammers have now taken 14 points from a possible 18 away from home. But, infuriatingly for Allardyce, above, they have not won any of their past six games at Upton Park.

At Oakwell, though, they looked every inch a team ready for a return to the big time as they dominated Keith Hill’s Barnsley from start to finish to register their 12th away victory of the season.

Kevin Nolan gave them a seventh-minute lead after Nicky Maynard nodded Matt Taylor’s corner into his path.

ì

î

Nolan volleyed wide before Maynard made it 2-0, picking up the ball outside the box before striding forward and planting a superb shot beyond the reach of David Button.

The Tykes goalkeeper dropped a real clanger 10 minutes before half-time as he tried to dribble his way out of trouble inside his own penalty box, only to gift possession to Mark Noble, who looked up and, this being Masters week, sand-wedged his lob into an empty net.

Ten minutes after the break former Barnsley striker Ricardo Vaz Te grabbed his fourth goal of the past five games after Button could only parry George McCartney’s cross.

Maynard, snapped up from Bristol City for £1.6 million in January, nearly made it 5-0 as his 30-yarder crashed off the crossbar.

The Hammers face resurgent Birmingham on Monday when Allardyce will be desperate to end home failures, especially as Southampton entertain Reading on Friday.

As for Barnsley, their fans did not appear too concerned as safety has already been secured and they reacted to West Ham’s fourth goal by forming a conga.

Barnsley 0 West Ham 4: Away-day delight for Allardyce as Tykes get Hammered

Who says Sam Allardyce cannot win West Ham fans over and promotion in the process?

He may be struggling to satisfy the loyalists on home territory but last night hundreds of Hammers fans were doing a South Yorkshire conga as Allardyce’s side kept up the pressure on the Championship’s top two with a club- record 12th away win of the season.

This comfortable victory kept West Ham firmly in touch with new leaders Reading and second-placed Southampton, who face the daunting prospect of their south coast derby with Portsmouth on Saturday.

This was among their most stylish away wins and fittingly Sir Trevor Brooking, making a rare appearance as a TV pundit, was in the Oakwell stands to witness it. His beloved club’s next game is at home to Birmingham City, whose studious manager Chris Hughton was also among the spectators and given plenty to contemplate as he watched Kevin Nolan, Nicky Maynard, Mark Noble and former Barnsley favourite Ricardo Vaz Te secure three valuable points.

Allardyce could not contain his delight. ‘It was great performance,’ the Hammers manager said. ‘We were under that bit more pressure because we obviously knew the Reading result and we wanted to recover from the disappointing result last week. And what a way to bounce back.

‘That is probably as well as we have played over a whole 90 minutes. We have a new club record for away wins, which is a fantastic achievement and it is just a shame our home draws have overshadowed that magnificent effort.’

To the clear delight of Allardyce — and the detractors in the stand to his left who greeted Nicky Maynard’s 25-yard strike with a chorus of ‘We play on the floor’ — there were 10 passes in the build-up to the visitors’ second.

But the finish was all down to Maynard, who was denied a hat-trick in the second half by the crossbar and an offside decision. He curled the ball low into the net after running on to Nolan’s short pass.

And poor Button’s misery was completed in the 35th minute when he gifted West Ham their third goal after a catastrophic mix-up with David Cotterill. The Barnsley keeper failed to put his right boot through the winger’s routine back-pass and Noble sneaked in to steal possession before chipping his shot perfectly over Button into an empty net.

Vaz Te, who is still Barnsley’s top scorer, scored his fourth in five games after the break when he slotted home from close range after Button again spilled a rare right-foot shot from George McCartney.

Vaz Te barely celebrated and was given a polite round of applause by home fans. But they left the home seats virtually deserted before the final whistle, as Barnsley fell to their ninth defeat at Oakwell.

Hill’s men, who managed just one shot at Robert Green, still need at least one more win for safety and face four of the top 10, plus a trip to relegation rivals Bristol City.

Hill said: ‘I cannot defend that as a manager. We were second best before the game but shot ourselves in the foot. The only positive I can salvage is it was not seven or eight and more embarrassing. It is difficult to stomach the difference but we are not a competitor to West Ham in any way, shape or form

West Ham United kept Reading and Southampton in their sights in the Championship's automatic promotion race thanks to some kamikaze Barnsley defending at Oakwell.

The Hammers, who started the game seven points adrift of the new leaders Reading, who had earlier beaten Leeds United, never looked back once Kevin Nolan tapped the ball home in the sixth minute after Nicky Maynard's corner had bounced between the Barnsley striker Craig Davies's legs.

Maynard added a fine second with a low finish from the edge of the penalty area after a neat interchange with Nolan in the 23rd minute and Mark Noble cashed in on some more hapless defending 12 minutes later to curl home a third goal from a tight angle, helping to set a new club record of 12 wins on the road in a season.

"We found a cutting edge and it was a fantastic, professional performance," said the West Ham manager, Sam Allardyce.

"We've broken the club record for away wins in a season, which is a great achievement. It's very pleasing because it's always difficult to play away from home. It's just a pity we haven't won more games at home."

Five straight draws last month meant Sam Allardyce's side have seen Reading cruise past them into the top two, but their second league win in eight games was already secured when Ricardo Vaz Tê added a fourth goal from close range against his former club early in the second half.

Barnsley have now won only one of their last 10 league matches and were left looking anxiously over their shoulders despite a nine-point cushion between themselves and the bottom three.

"The pressure was on us after Reading won earlier in the day," Allardyce said. "Winning was the only thing for us and we did that. We did that with style and showed we could handle the pressure situation.

"We now face Birmingham City on Monday and that will be a tough test for us. We need to try and grasp another three points and see where we go from there."

Barnsley 0 West Ham United 4

West Ham outclassed Barnsley to stroll to their 12th away win of the season and maintain hopes of automatic promotion.

The visitors, who were three goals up inside 35 minutes, moved to within three points of second-placed Southampton, albeit while having played a game more.

With West Ham manager Sam Allardyce having warned that anything other than victory would end his side’s hopes of finishing in the top two, Kevin Nolan stabbed home his 11th goal of the season early on when Barnsley failed to deal with Matt Taylor’s inswinging corner.

Nicky Maynard doubled the advantage when the forward fired into the bottom corner from 20 yards to round off a slick 10-pass move from West Ham’s half. Mark Noble deftly chipped in the third goal after a mistake from goalkeeper David Button presented the midfielder with the ball on the corner of Barnsley’s penalty area.

Craig Davies came closest for the home side before the break, the forward’s powerful 25-yard drive saved at full-stretch by Robert Green.

The margin of victory ought to have been more emphatic for West Ham, as Nolan forced a good save from Button after he burst through from a narrow angle and Gary O’Neil went close with a volleyed effort.

Barnsley mounted a damage-limitation exercise after the interval. It failed to work as Ricardo Vaz Te, who left Barnsley for Upton Park in January, gathered a rebound to volley home his fourth goal in five games after Button had saved from George McCartney

West Ham set club record to put the heat on Saints

Barnsley 0 West Ham United 4

West Ham maintained their hopes of automatic promotion from the Championship in emphatic style, as they swept Barnsley aside to seal to a club record 12th away win of the season.

Three goals up inside the opening 35 minutes, the visitors moved within three points of second-placed Southampton. Sam Allardyce had suggested that anything other than victory would end his side's hopes of finishing in the top two, but it was soon clear they would avoid any such pitfalls with consummate ease.

"It was a measured, controlled performance with a lot of quality," the West Ham manager insisted. "It's a terrific result and well deserved. We've broken a club record which I'm really pleased about for the players and our fans. We've given them something to cheer about all season away from home and it's just a shame we can't transmit that into our home form. Automatic promotion is still in sight."

Kevin Nolan stabbed home his 11th goal of the season from close range as Nicky Maynard ****ed on Matt Taylors in-swinging corner after seven minutes for the Hammers' first.

Maynard's second goal for the club since a £1.5m move from Bristol City in January doubled the advantage on 23 minutes, the forward firing the ball into the bottom corner from 20-yards to round-off a free-flowing 10-pass move. Mark Noble chipped the third after a mistake from goalkeeper David Button presented the midfielder with the ball on the corner of the Barnsley area.

Ricardo Vaz Te, who remains Barnsley's top scorer on 12 despite leaving for Upton Park in January, volleyed his fourth goal in five games from close range 10 minutes after the break.

Hill laments Tykes’ ability to ‘shoot ourselves in foot’

bARNSLEY’S kamikaze defending at Oakwell enabled West Ham United to keep Reading and Southampton in their sights in the Championship’s automatic promotion race.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill offered no excuses.

“I was disappointed with the result and the performance and I can’t defend that as a manager,” he said.

“It was always going to be difficult but we shot ourselves in the foot magnificently. Even John Wayne couldn’t have done it better.”

The Hammers, who started the game seven points adrift of new leaders Reading, never looked back once midfielder Kevin Nolan tapped the ball home in the sixth minute after Nicky Maynard’s corner had bounced between Barnsley striker Craig Davies’s legs.

Maynard added a fine second with a low finish from the edge of the penalty area after a neat interchange with Nolan in the 23rd minute and Mark Noble cashed in on some more hapless defending 12 minutes later to curl home a third goal from a tight angle.

Five straight draws last month meant Sam Allardyce’s side have seen Reading cruise past them into the top two, but their second league win in eight games was already secured when Ricardo Vaz Te added a fourth goal from close range against his former club early in the second half. Barnsley have now won only one of their last 10 league matches and are left looking anxiously over their shoulders despite a nine-point cushion between themselves and the bottom three.

It took the Hammers only six minutes to make the breakthrough as Maynard’s corner from the right somehow found its way to unmarked Nolan on the goal-line and the midfielder prodded the simplest of finishes beyond Barnsley goalkeeper David Button.

Vaz Te, on his first return to Oakwell since his January move to West Ham, saw his overhead kick comfortably held by Button, on loan from Tottenham, before the Hammers extended their advantage in the 23rd minute.

Nolan was this time the provider, cutting the ball back inside on the edge of the penalty area, where Maynard drilled a low shot into the bottom corner.

Barnsley then gave themselves a mountain to climb with some more shocking defending 10 minutes before the break.

Winger David Cotterill played Button into trouble with a short back pass and when the goalkeeper’s clearance rebounded to Noble on the left edge of the area, the Hammers midfielder curled the ball home in some style from a tight angle.

West Ham defender George McCartney’s 20-yard shot was well saved by Button soon after the restart before Vaz Te put the Hammers out of sight with a fourth goal in the 55th minute.

The Portuguese striker latched on to McCartney’s cross from the left six yards from goal and buried the ball beneath Button into the centre of goal

Allardyce hails performance

Sam Allardyce was delighted with West Ham's performance after they eased to a 4-0 at Barnsley on Friday night.

The comfortable win also set a new club record as the Hammers took their 12th away win of the season to keep the pressure on Reading and Southampton at the top of the Championship.

The result at Oakwell was never in doubt, and Allardyce was pleased with how his side dominated the game.

"We found a cutting edge and it was a fantastic, professional performance," he said.

"We've broken the club record for away wins in a season, which is a great achievement.

"It's very pleasing because it's always difficult to play away from home. It's just a pity we haven't won more games at home.

"The front men are finding the back of the net and we scored three great goals in front of our fans in the first half.

"It was a great strike from Nicky Maynard and he could have scored with another great effort late in the game

"It was great for Vaz Te to come back to his old club and score.

"I'm delighted because it was a great, all-round performance.

"The pressure was on us after Reading won earlier in the day. Winning was the only thing for us and we did that. We did that with style and showed we could handle the pressure situation.

"We now face Birmingham City on Monday and that will be a tough test for us. We need to try and grasp another three points and see where we go from there."
Disappointed

For Barnsley the result means they have won just once in their last 10 games, and Keith Hill was at a loss to explain his side's performance.

He said: "I was disappointed with the result and the performance and I can't defend that as a manager.

"It was always going to be difficult but we shot ourselves in the foot magnificently. Even John Wayne couldn't have done it better.

"The only positive that I can salvage is that it wasn't six, seven or eight because it could have been even more embarrassing. We could have been more than three goals down at half-time.

"You have to have the finance to be successful. I would like to spend on a squad what they spent on Kevin Nolan.

"They recruited Maynard and Vaz Te in the January transfer window. We are not, in any way, a competitor to West Ham.

"I hate it because I want to be successful. It's at times like this that we've got to be brave and accountable."

West Ham United Blog

Barnsley 0 - 4 West Ham United: There's Life Yet...
Well Sam and West Ham blew an 80 year old away-wins-in-a-season record out of the water today with their 12th away win at Oakwell, where the Hammers made fairly easy work of dispatching a hard working, and, at times, pretty playing Barnsley side.

The Hammers started with the 451, with Maynard up front, but seemed to transition more effectively to a 433 than I've seen for a while when attacking, which, surprisingly, was often. Despite Barnsley's bright start and evident initial comfort on the ball, it was always West Ham that dominated and controlled. Pressing hard, moving well off the ball and playing a good mixture of on-the-floor ball and the occasional lob from Green up front, this match was easy on the eye and perhaps kind to our players in terms of fitness for Monday's critical home match with Birmingham City.

Vaz Te was bright and sprightly and seemed to be everywhere again today; he really is an asset and offers real technical ability and flare twinned with vision. His quick, intelligent passes and his agility off the ball caused all sorts of problems for the Tykes today. Nolan was huge as well. Sure his 11th goal of the season from Taylor's corner was a scrappy affair, stabbing it past the outstretched hand of Button with his left foot, but his ability to know where to be is uncanny. He seems genuinely to want to please the fans, and ran straight behind the goal to punch the air and celebrate with the travelling faithful, who were, again, magnificent. The second from Maynard was pure artistry and started with Maynard laying off the ball to Nolan who's clever 1-2 back to Maynard saw the ex-Bristol City striker show just why the two Davids paid so much for him by passing two players and sweeping an inch-perfect gorgeous curving grass-cutter between the tips of Button's fingers and the inside side-netting. There was so much curl on the shot that it sat revolving for ten seconds after the whistle in the side net. And Button's misery wasn't over when Noble cheekily gathered a lose ball that Button had dithered over and angled a diagonal lob from the left corner of the 18 yard box over and around Button's static frame into the yawning goal.

In the second half it was McCartney's brilliant shot from wide left that gave keeper Button little choice but to flap and palm it away with his outstretched left hand right into, who else, Vaz-Te's path, who duly made sure of the fourth goal. And it could have been more, with Maynard's brilliant 25 yard screamer seemly goal-bound only hit the cross-bar and ricochet back denying what would certainly have been the goal of the day in any league anywhere... And his third was ruled off-side by the slimmest of margins, but he has to be happy with his performance today and the way he seems to have found how to play with Nolan and Vaz-Te. Even Cole, on the bench, seemed genuinely happy for the team today with big smiles and encouragement all round.

Allardyce's mantra seemed to be rotation today, with Demel and Reid both being introduced back in the starting line up for JOB and Faye who were not on the bench. Demel had a solid, if unspectacular, game as befits a faux-debutant coming back from injury. He showed the occasional bright run forward, but was reluctant to take risks which is a sound policy given his lack of matches. Demel, no doubt as a precaution, made way for Collins on 58 minutes, and Lansbury came on for O'Neil at 70 minutes. Papa Diop was introduced at 80 minutes for Noble who was a surprise starter given pre-match news that he was suffering from a leg strain and would be absent for 2 weeks. Noble did recieve treatment on the bench, but it looked like preventative stuff rather than anything to worry about.

With Reading picking up 3 points at home against Leeds - who, despite being down to ten men after 12 minutes and having the better of the chances in the second half, finally succumbed in the late Reading strike on 87 minutes, which was quickly doubled - West Ham's 4 goals may go a long way to deciding things if they are fortunate enough to claw back the points deficit and it comes down to goal difference. By doubling Reading's score, the Hammers lie just one goal behind now.

Southampton, now second in the table and 3 points ahead of West Ham with a game in hand, play tomorrow. Despite the historical significance of the derby match, I'm not sure that Portsmouth have enough in the tank to deal with Southampton at St. Mary's and I expect the Saints will win. However, the pressure is on, and I'd rather have 3 points in the bank than a game in hand.

This is all West Ham can do now: keep winning. And Monday's match will be no walkover: Birmingham have had our number for a few seasons now, and Zigic always seems to step up (excuse the pun) and redirect a set piece or two into our net with his bonce. It's likely to be a nervy affair for fans, but let's hope the team take some heart from the Barnsley game and play with the freedom, creativity and pleasure they showed away today at the Boleyn on Monday.

In some respects West Ham have an advantage over Southampton in that they will have one more day's rest before the match. Reading have a tougher match down at Brighton, who really do have everything to play for, like Birmingham, to stay in the playoffs. Let's hope Gus can pull a rabbit from the hat.

Enjoy your chocolate.

Paul.

Thanks CH.

Shame our Chief Exec continues to pollute the media with her boring, vaccuous tittle-tattle. Loively to read all the plaudits of a 4-0 away win though.

So Brady has chosen not to use the opportunity of writing her own column in a national newspaper to put right the Telegraph's misquote that she had said 100% of SAB were in favour of move to Stratford.

Or could it just be that the Telegraph journalist didn't make up the 100% figure as the club seem to be claiming.

vital west ham

Sam`s Beaming!

Following on from our excellent 4-0 win up at Oakwell, yesterday, Big Sam had nothing but praise for his side.

It`ll still be tough to get one of those automatic promotion spots but Big Sam reckons it`s still on, commenting about yesterday,

"That was a great performance from us. It has kept us in the hunt for automatic promotion."

"What a way to bounce back from our defeat by Reading last week. We scored some great goals and our forwards are putting the ball in the back of the net again."

"We found our cutting edge brilliantly, but these boys need to keep scoring in the remaining games."

And with Southampton and Reading still to play each other, we might just be back in with a shout!
