Levy reaffirms Tottenham's commitment to new stadium

The Spurs chief has outlined the club’s plans regarding their move and regeneration of the area in his end-of-season message to fans
13 May 2012. Daniel Levy has revealed the club’s commitment to building a new stadium in the north London borough in a message to fans. Levy gave details on the club’s official website of the local council’s investment to aid with the construction of the ground and surrounding area.

“With a commitment to invest in the area around the stadium from the Mayor and Haringey Council, an investment of some £90m in land and planning by the Club and with planning applications granted, we are now pushing ahead with what is widely acknowledged to be the single most important development capable of delivering social change in the area," he said.
“An iconic new stadium at the heart of a true sport-led regeneration scheme, delivering new homes, shops, restaurants, jobs and opportunities.”
Levy stated the intention of the club to get the project moving as soon as possible.
“The scale of demolition around the stadium should leave no one in any doubt as to our intent to forge ahead with this project and we shall devote our full attention and energies to it," he added.
“Work is expected to start on the construction of the supermarket to the north of the stadium towards the end of the year.
“We shall continue to make best use of the new space the demolition process affords and to provide extra catering and entertainment during that time.”

Doesn't sound like a football club that is reconsidering its options or backtracking to me.

The process to take over the Olympic Stadium has been extended another eight weeks to give bidders extra time to submit their proposals.

Andrew Altman, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, which is running the tendering, said: "We have been very encouraged by the quality of the bids so far. However, a number of issues have arisen during the process and we believe it is sensible to give everyone more time so they can be addressed.

West Ham remain favourites to take over the stadium.

Mr Altman said: "The fundamentals have not changed and it remains our intention to sign construction contracts for converting the Stadium at the end of October, with the intention of re-opening in 2014."

IMO this effectively means that an agreement could not be made (with West Ham) at this stage and they have now opened the bid again and have asked all 16 original parties that expressed an interest to bid.

As other posters have said, the decision to take Baroness Ford out of the process could be significant.

I think the opening of the bidding process for the third time is a smoke screen, and that the government are thinking about getting the olympics out the way to then announce that no suitable tenant/s could be found that will bring in a good return for the tax payer and so change tact and ask for exprssions of interst to buy the land with completion due to take place October 2017 which will enable enough time for the formalaties and the planning process. There will be a serious number of people interested. UKA can stay at Crystal Palace.

Either way the whole thing is an absoloute farce!

Absolute shambles. This decision should have been made before a brick was laid. Shocking.

Sounds like this could run and run, hiking up our costs for lawyers even more in the process and who knows if there will ever be a watertight legal solution to rent our buy the bloody bowl anyway.
Maybe somewhere down the road there will be an opportunity to buy the land outright, knock the OS down (who gives a monkey's about the Olympic legacy anyway ?) and build a proper football arena, fit for West Ham United.

Hopefully by 2017 our club will be in a much better financial situation, maybe we'll have new owners with some money as well to build a new ground for us, similat to Upton Park but bigger and better.

As for the moment, I hope the two Davids play hardball and say "No, thanks!"

Bidding process for Olympic Stadium extended by eight weeks

Resolution of the future use of the Olympic Stadium has been further delayed after the London Legacy Development Corporation announced it was extending the process by at least eight weeks as it reopened the process to bidders.

The delay makes it almost certain that the stadium’s future will not be resolved before the start of the Olympics, and raises further questions about the LLDC’s handling of the process.

The LLDC had been due to make a final decision about the stadium’s future on May 21, but Telegraph Sport revealed last week that the process was likely to be delayed because of hold-ups in negotiations and the threat of legal challenges.

This morning the LLDC announced that not only was it putting back its self-imposed deadline, but that it was also reopening the process to allow new bidders to submit proposals.

From an initial list of 16 interested parties just four bids, including West Ham and the University of East London, proceeded to make full bids.

They have been in negotiations since March 23, but the LLDC is now reopening the process to the 12 parties who walked away.

In an attempt to entice them back in that amounts to an admission that the initial process was flawed, the LLDC said it was revising the terms of the tender because the original “may have deterred interested parties from bidding”.

The areas that will be addressed include the need for governing body approvals, technical improvements to the Stadium, and the opportunity to bid for the right to exploit the Stadium naming rights.

It is unclear how precisely the terms have changed, but these three areas have been central to negotiations with West Ham.

West Ham’s failure to get Football League approval for their move to Stratford from Upton Park is already the subject of an objection from Leyton Orient owner Barry Hearne, who is considering launching a Judicial Review of the process.

West Ham’s tenancy has already been delayed by the courts once, with the government abandoning the original process late last year amid legal threats from Tottenham, who lost the initial bid to West Ham, and Orient.

The LLDC said it still intended to reopen the stadium on schedule in 2014 as planned.

The LLDC’s move comes just days after London mayor Boris Johnson appointed conservative councillor Daniel Moylan the new chairman of the LLDC. He will begin work, replacing Baroness Margaret Ford, next month.

In its statement the LLDC said: “The London Legacy Development Corporation today announced it is extending the Stadium competition process by a further eight weeks to allow all parties who registered to receive the Invitation to Tender (ITT) additional time to submit a bid.

“The Legacy Corporation has taken this action to allow more time to address a number of issues which have arisen since the ITT was issued in January.

Andrew Altman, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said:"We are determined to run a process that is fair to all and delivers the best possible legacy for the Olympic Stadium.

"We have been very encouraged by the quality of the bids so far. However, a number of issues have arisen during the process and we believe it is sensible to give everyone more time so they can be addressed.

"We want to make the process as competitive as possible and extending the competition period will allow all parties that registered an initial interest in the Stadium another chance to bid.

"The fundamentals have not changed and it remains our intention to sign construction contracts for converting the Stadium at the end of October, with the intention of reopening in 2014 as previously announced. This is a significant public asset and a 99 year lease, and it is right that we take the time now to get the best possible outcome for the Stadium.”

"The Legacy Corporation has made a number of clarifications to the ITT in response to issues that have arisen since the ITT was first issued in January, some of which we understand may have deterred interested parties from bidding. These include governing body approvals, technical improvements to the Stadium and the opportunity to bid for the right to exploit the Stadium naming rights."

I don't think this is good news for us in terms of moving to the OS. If they were keen on us going there there wouldn't be this delay now.

These include governing body approvals, If we get promoted, a new application would be made from the Prem, so Hearn's complaint would no longer be valid

technical improvements to the Stadium Retractable seating, it's cost and impact on athletics?

and the opportunity to bid for the right to exploit the Stadium naming rights The Daves playing hardball over how much they're willing to pay without those rights?

I actually think this could be good news ~ don't expect the other 14 interested parties will have much time to put in anything like a comprehensive bid. Sounds like the TLC want to cover their backs and make sure we win on Sunday and get the premiership approval sorted as we already have done before to cover off Barry Boy and sort the technical improvements and naming rights. They have to let the original bidders be made aware of these "after" the original submission changes. Hence the reason why West Ham have not been able to say to much to date.

The process looks to be in deep trouble. There is no other rational explanation for changing the Chairman, delaying the process and moving the goalposts.

Amazing really that we haven't had a club statement from Brady and the two Davids on the OS telling the legacy committee that we have decided to pull out under these circumstances. If this was not a stadium we're talking about but a used car everybody on this site I'm sure would have walked away from a deal by now as the used car sales guys are not reliable or trustworthy at all.

So, come on Davids! Let's get promoted and buy ourselves a specially designed proper shiny new car/football arena fit for West Ham United and let the OS and its athletics legacy rot... :crest:

The owners will never pull out of getting in to that stadium whilst they have air in their lungs.

No real shock here to be honest.
This is what happens when you leave politicians in charge of anything.
It highlights how useless and pointless it is to have people making decisions who have limited Life and Business Skills.

It seems as though the club may have gone in to negotiations demanding everything that we all hope for, knowing that we re the only show in town.
Keep playing hard ball, that would be my advice. If we don't get the thing the way we want It, then who really cares.

Exactly. Sadly, some around here would cheerfully follow us to the Blue Square Prem* but not to the most high profile stadium in the country.

Wouldn't ague with that, I think bringing back the other interested parties to the table is looking for a get out of jail card to aviod the expense of our demands.

So, the penny has dropped, nobody wants an Athletics stadium ...........or at least nobody is willing to pay for it .

So, they'll change the rules for a third time to try and entice a bid

HERE IS A CLUE YOU DELUDED TWATS

Knock it down and build a proper football ground and you may have a chance at saving face, if not any cash .
