How many did Harewood score for us last 1st season back? Vaz Te is a much better finisher.

He'll score 6 as he'll be injured most of the season. Its the West Ham way.

Reckon he'll start on fire, may fade away later into the season. Going to guess around 12.

Not Vaz Te related, but I think if given a chance Maynard could net a fair few himself.

Well I'd our whole team only manages just over 35 we could be ****ed unless our defence is rock solid as Wolves who finished botttomast season bagged 40.

Which makes Grant Holt with his 15 goals last season something of a bargain doesn't it?

It would be a huge risk to think Vaz is going to do the business. He is a perfect example of a one season wonder. 5 goals in 82 games before this season. That's why we are going for Holt IMO. He's been pretty much 1 in 2 his whole career.

No, not at all as Vaz Te only cost us 500,000 & Grant Holt is being quoted as 6 million! For an extra 5 goals he is not worth over 10 times what we paid for Vaz Te!

The only thing is goes to show you if he does go on to score 10+ goals next season is what a bargain he is & not the other way around!

Cole's best is 10, Nolan's is 17 and Vaz Te's is 3. There's 30 goals there.

As for Vaz next year, I think he'll score 7.

Absolute max of 10. The lad has loads of ability but even when he was scoring goals at the end of the season had the occasional quiet spell where he drifted out of games. He'll need to up his game if he wants to score in the top division.

Would love him to make the step up and do a Marlon Harewood!!!

Would be surprised if Linda gets 2, would be equally surprised if Tomkins doesn't get any.

Cole - 10
Nolan - 15 (With Diame now playing he can go forward more often, also now that we're a division up other teams will be defending less, Nolan will be bigger for us this season)
Noble - 8 (7 penalties)
Diame - 4
Tomkins - 4
Reid - 4
Taylor - 3
Maynard - 6
Collison - 6
Vaz Te - 15
75. With more players to come.

Sam's right, we (well i am at least) are deluded.

Honestly can't see Over Chuffed more than 8-10. Nolan wont get 17 again (I reckon as his supporting cast was a lot better with the Barcodes) hopefully he'll get 10 but with a lot more assists chucked in. And if Vaz Te gets into double figures it will be brilliant. He's either going to get 15+ or 0.

I'd be happy with about 7 or 8 definitely; great if he beats more, but more interested in his assists than goals, perhaps. We aren't going to have a 15-20 goal striker next year (again would love to be proven wrong); with the likes of Nolan, Cole, Vaz, whoever we bring in as a striker or goalscoring wide-man (Jarvis or Krasic?), backed up by the likes of Maynard and Collison, I think it more likely to be aiming for 3 of our main attackers to be in and around the 10 goal mark if possible. If they do, and the rest of the squad chip in as hoped for (should be a few goals in there already), then we'll be fine.

We're probably better off having half a dozen or so players who can get between 5-10 goals each than having a couple who we're praying can get around 15 each. In 1998-99, our top scorer was Ian Wright with a measley 9 goals (IIRC)... but backed up by the likes of Sinclair, Lampard and co all chipping in with half a dozen or so. We finished 5th. Stats can be misleading of course, but food for thought perhaps?

Hopefully Vaz is on an upward curve now in his career - I suspect he is. With that in mind, I look forward to him saying yah boo sucks and breaking double-figures next year. :thup:

Trouble is we really "need" a centre forward who can get at least 15 or more. A tough ask I know, but if we think that Nolan can get into double figure, I don't see Collison (when he plays) getting more than 3-5. Noble will do wonders to repeat last season even with pens, they might be a bit harder to come by in the PL. Taylor won't get that many, I doubt Tomkins will repeat either marking is a lot better in the PL. BUT. If we can get a.n. other and Over Chuffed to get 15-20 between them, we could really be in good shape. Vaz Te realistically won't repeat 20 odd so double figures from him would be over and above I reckon.

Cole/a.n. other (incl cameos for Maynard maybe) = 15+
Nolan = 8-10
Noble = 7 (hopeful)
Collison = 3
Tomkins/Reid/FB's = 5

That gives us 40.

We need someone to chuck in a shitload of goals and/or a bucketload of assists. That would enable Nolan to chip in 15 I reckon and take a bit of pressure off the front 1.

The Barcodes scored 56, finishing 5th. Everton 50 7th, Liverpool 47 and Fulham with 48 and the Baggies with 40 finishing in 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.

Even the Barcodes although giving up 51, I think they probably gave up a couple of games with 5 or so. So it's key to keep it tight in every game, knowing you will ship goals occasionally. Key is someone decent up front and another key def mid I reckon. Noble and Diame won't go the whole season without suspensions/injuries. Maybe JOB could fill in I reckon he could do a really job (see what I did there) in that capacity.

Formation might be key, and I think first season in 4-2-3-1 is a must. 2 protecting Reid/Tonka/Magna (who won't be ready for the PL early doors) but with Diame and Noble who have that experience we should shift to that. Go differently maybe when playing Soton/Reading types at home. 4-5-1/4-3-3.

Cautious but not overly so. Pisspoor performances early doors will alienate the already fickle crowd and put massive pressure on later in the season.

:wink:

Lets hope he gets off to a good start as the first half a dozen fixtures are favorable and then grows in confidence and then we'll see 8-)
