Xbox ETA tomorrow “end of day”. Can’t wait to get it unpacked, plugged in, and downloading updates for the next few weeks...

Looks like my 5 year old non-HDR 4k telly supports 120hz @ 1440p & 1080p, so no need to buy a new screen. Woot!

F*cked if I know how to make that work. Anyway, downloaded some updates and 5 games and the disk is now full. Cushty.DasNutNock2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 12:12 pm Looks like my 5 year old non-HDR 4k telly supports 120hz @ 1440p & 1080p, so no need to buy a new screen. Woot!

My brother just got one and has the same issue, but says the official (admittedly clever) expanded storage is £220!DasNutNock2 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 11:52 am F*cked if I know how to make that work. Anyway, downloaded some updates and 5 games and the disk is now full. Cushty.
Can't you just use a normal external drive to add more games?

Re: Sony vs Microsoft round 4
You can for current and previous gen stuff, but anything using the velocity architecture has to be run from the SSD. Fortunately I had a small 1TB usb3 disk kicking around so I plugged that in. Spoils load times a bit but nothing major.

Re: Sony vs Microsoft round 4
I stand corrected - 1080p/120hz is working on my TV. Looks like it would also support 1440p/120hz but my set doesn’t support that resolution. 4k/60hz is the other available

I don't know about any of that gubbins, but the pictures look great plugged into my mahoosive TV. I don't know what it will be like on the kids telly though.
It hooks up to the new Marshall amp-style speaker as well via Bluetooth.

Re: Sony vs Microsoft round 4
It’s worth trying to get 120hz configured - with hdmi 2.0 you won’t get 4k/120hz, probably only 1080p (maybe 1440p as well, if your TV supports it), but the additional smoothness and responsiveness does enhance gameplay on games that support it.
Mine actually seems to run at 119hz, not 120hz, which (I think) is causing some artefacts to appear in dark areas, little flashy white lines here & there, so clearly there’s adjustments to make. Still, you should try experimenting with settings because these consoles are highly flexible and support a dizzying array of HDR and frame rate configurations.

Re: Sony vs Microsoft round 4
Now i have had this since release (and carted it with me to spain in my hand luaggage), i can see its a fantastic machine and nice not to listen to it sound like its taking off like the ps4 was doing towards the end.
I see so many people online complaining about not being able to get one, i managed to order 3, The first from Amazon months back, then from Game 4 weeks before release and one from JL on release date (which i kept for the 2 year warranty). No bots, just simple chcking out - amazes me how mad people are getting online they couldnt manage to buy one - maybe i was right place right time (3 times?).
Obviously i gave the two spares to a family member and a mate of mine at cost - just incase - i could have easily sold them to pay for my own looking at the ridiculous prices they now go for.
In any case, its a waiting game now for some "next gen" games - im quite happy playing Warzone, and actually hoping sackboy goes in the sale boxing day maybe, as i will use my PSN credit to buy.

Re: Sony vs Microsoft round 4
Ha, sounds like you got it from the same batch as I did. Got a notification at 7:45am and tried, but the Currys site kept failing until I gave up. I decided to try once more at 8:20 and it went straight through, and like you I expected a further email saying that stock was not available. But it arrived a day later!
Very very happy with the Series X personally. While I don't really have any newer looking games to run on it, besides Forza Horizon 4 which looks great, I can't keep away from it.
I realised that a lot of my Xbox One games I had stopped playing or lost interest in, a lot of the time was down to performance issues and load times. Dying repeatedly at the same point and waiting for 2 minutes for the game to load back up is not a lot of fun. Load times for my old games are basically non-existent now and anything CPU/GPU intensive just runs a hell of a lot better. I had the One S before so even just the One X upgraded games look way better than they did for me before. Can't wait til we get some actual next-gen games on it
I also thought I wasn't really bothered by the Quick Resume feature, but that's a bit of a game changer for me.

Exactly the same.
Great bit of kit, isn't it.
