Dortmund are another big draw who look like they could be heading for the Europa League.

Way current things stand looks like B Dortmund and RB Leipzig are heading to the Europa, while likes of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Atalanta or Villareal looking like strong possibilities.

What are the German teams like at the moment? Bit of a surprise to see RB Leipzig struggling in the CL, although they're stuffing Club Bruges tonight.

I know I want to avoid any Spanish sides as they seem to do bizarrely well in the Europa.

All fair points :newthumb:

I’m just thinking on how and who we’ll beat on the way to the final :scarfer:
EVERYONE!

(At the moment, you could feasibly have Leipzig, Porto/Atletico Madrid/AC Milan, Dortmund, Benfica/Barcelona, Atalanta, Sevilla, Zenit dropping down from the CL. Some very, very good sides in there. My money's on us getting Sherif though!)

Don’t forget Barcelona. Heading into the Europa barring an upset

That’s why it’s so important to win the group.

Let others like Napoli and Lazio square off with Dortmund and Barcelona first before we have to play one.

A quick analysis of what teams are likely to be dropping from the Champions League to the Europa League after five games-

Group A- Brugge need to beat Leipzig's result in their last game, pretty unlikely. 80% Leipzig, 20% Brugge. Leipzig are usually pretty good, but only 7th in Bundasliga this season.

Group B- Complicated three way battle, Porto look most likely to bag second, Atletico to go **** or bust (2nd or 4th). 50% AC Milan, 30% Atletico, 20% Porto. Obviously would not want to play Atletico, who would probably become favourites to win the whole thing.

Group C- Dortmund, 100%. They're looking good domestically so a big one to avoid, despite a pretty weak Champions League effort.

Group D- Sheriff Tiraspol, 100%. Don't know what to make of them after they beat Real Madrid, they've obviously got some talent.

Group E- Barcelona 60%, Benfica 40%. Bring on the Camp Nou!

Group F- Atalanta 60%, Villarreal 40%. Looking at domestic form, I'd rather face Villarreal

Group G- Hurting my brain working through scenarios, lets say Lille, RB Salzberg, Seville and Wolfsburg all 25%. All decent opponents but no one I'd say we'd be massive underdogs against, though Seville stand out for their history in the competition.

Group H- Zenit 100%. Top of the Russian league, one to avoid.

Just to remind everyone that these teams will all have to win a game against the second place teams in the group to get through to the last sixteen to face the group winners, which, please God, will include us!

Dortmund will be hard to beat. I’d fear for a lot of our players in that environment and think we’d struggle to keep the tie close enough going into a second leg at home.

We need them to get dumped out in the Playoff Round, really.

Unless you subscribe to the idea that the easiest route doesn’t matter and the experience of going to Dortmund supersedes it.

That’s a seriously tough tie. Probably the favourites now.

I’d make Dortmund favourites against us for sure.

However I think saying we’d struggle to keep it close after 1 leg is a bit much, especially when you consider we’ve not lost by more than 1 goal in almost a year now.

To be fair the other two teams in their group are Man City and PSG.

The prospect of playing against Haaland in the last 16 does rather focus the mind on the CB situation.

Dawson already has him in his pocket.

Be amazed if they didn't cash their chips in early and wave him off in Jan now if a buyer comes forward. He's off in the summer anyway.
Could be what City need to beat Chelsea to the title...

I'm thinking more in terms of the new experience of playing in front of that particular crowd and atmosphere, for some of our players, I think it could be quite overwhelming.

Then you've got Erling Haaland vs Craig Dawson to think about!

It sounds crazy to even say this but i genuinely think we can beat most of these teams dropping down. Dortmund would be the 1 team i would rather avoid, however i would also love to see us play against them!

I'm not sure, if you break down our team we've got plenty of players who won't get fazed having already played at the highest level in front of big hostile crowds.

Fabianski, Yarmo, Ogbonna (if fit) & Zouma are all vastly experienced having played in several games in the Champions League and represented their national teams.

Soucek, Coufal, Fornals, Vlasic all internationals and experienced in the Europa League prior to this season.

Dec has played in a Euro Final, doesn't get much bigger than that.

Cress and Mick have over 400 premier league games between them.

Possibly someone like Ben Johnson could get a bit overwhelmed, but for that particular game id side with the more experienced Coufal.

Granded Haaland Vs Dawson could be a bit of a massacre
