Jesse is a no brainier if we can get him. Pretty sure we played him up front a few times last season with some success?

I just think, knowing what we know now, Lingard coming in would be huge, on and off the field.

I was against signing him in the summer, but having had time to think, I hope we bring him in, he could really help push us on, again..

We will lose Benrahma to the AFCON. Getting Lingard in is an absolute no brainer.

I believe Lingard will be an option only if no other options are available. With this other guy in charge of recruitment and last Summer targets perhaps then being available it may offer a chance to move forward rather than backwards or sideways. Im not against Lingard in January its just that I feel we could move on.

Lingard was warming up last night. Then he brought on Sancho and Van de Beek. They have a fully fit frontline now pretty much and he isn’t getting close. I think a January return would be likely. Newcastle might try, but surely he doesn’t go there.

Now we’ve agreed on Jesse, I think we need to be all over Bellotti.

The geezer is available and at a snip of the price he’ll be at once he has a new contract somewhere else.

Why are we so fixed on Lingard? He is average and will want far too much money a week.

He is out of contract in the summer and will want a bidding war to get him.

He is the type of player Newcastle will spend over £150k a week on

9 goals and extra assists was 'average'?

9 goals and 4 assists for us. Why would we not want him back?

Bit of a out liner for him, seasons before that his stats where below that.

He had a good 6 months with us.

The big advantage with getting Lingard at the right price is we know exactly what we are getting.

For 150k per week and a five year deal he might!
We won't offer anything like that and he is not getting any younger.

Also a lot closer to Manchester than London is, that may be a factor re family.

Whilst some of what you say is correct, Lingard sure is not average. The bloke's been in and around the Man Utd and England teams for many a year. Personal issues these past couple of years curtailed that.

If that's average it'll do for me as he would only improve our squad - does that make our squad below average ?

I'd rather we signed him in January than in the summer, what with Benrahma out of contention for a while. With Lingard we also know he would hit the ground running

Again, for 2-3 league games during which we have plenty of attacking midfielders that could come in and take his place.

Spending/signing a player just to fill for those three games is extremely Tottenham behaviour.

We spent £25m on Vlasic last summer, give the guy a chance. Entirely pointless to go and sign a fifth front line attacking midfielder now just because one of the four we have is going away for a few weeks with his International side.

He'll slot straight into the side seamlessly and will have an instant impact. If we're fighting on multiple fronts come the new year, that's exactly what we'll need.

We wouldn't be signing Lingard just to fill in for 3 games, though, would we, York?

If
we sign him, it's because we know the quality he will add to the side.

I personally don't think we will sign him, Newcastle will definitely throw stupid money at him.

Intrigued to see who we go after, now that the head of recruitment is in place.

It is highly unlikely Lingard comes back in and produces anything near what he did for us last season. We've also signed Vlasic, who we should invest a bit more time and energy in. Come January, Lingard only has 6 months left on his contract, which he could quite easily see out and sign for another club with a huge signing-on fee and wage increase, so I can't see him signing for us, or anyone else other than Newcastle, in the next window anyway.

Lingard had a brilliant time with us, but I think we should move on.

All this said, I don't think there's any way Man Utd will let Lingard join us in Jan if we're pushing them for top 4/6. They'd prefer to let him leave for nothing in the summer. Their fans would go potty.
