I see a

(a) top half defence, but only if Varane is in it and Shaw replicates his international performances, perhaps as a wing back

(b) a mid-table midfield, at best, with present options in mind (Matic's career is over and I cannot think of a single credible reason for him to still be part of a squad at a club that spends money like water flowing from a tap), and

(c) a top 3 front line, even if that means that they do not use Ronaldo for anything other than sub appearances.

They may return, perhaps temporarily, to Man Utd alumni - Lauren Blanc with Roy Keane as his #2?
Keane gives it the large but in reality he doesn't have the CV or the b*llocks to put his money where his mouth is.

My money would be Pochettino, but not until the start of next season. Carrick will steer the ship until then.

so the interim should be Steve Bruce or BFS. Steve Bruce has the club history and same festive coloured nose as Alex Ferguson and BFS has an arrogance and sense of entitlement akin to the club

I'd go for Bielsa for a season if I were them. Get the players running, scare the **** out of them and maybe set them up right for the next "project".

I don't think anybody coaches Ronaldo anymore. He needs 'managing' though.

Not sure ZZ fancies it....he's out of work currently and if either party were serious surely we would have heard?

The club are a shambles, an interim until an interim, until a permanent manager? Unless the offer is a massive payday for 6 months work, who of any repute would want that role?

Brendan Rogers, Poch are other names being bandied about...wonder if Conte rues not waiting for a couple of weeks?

Is very funny though...

Solskjær's legacy includes 2nd & 3rd in the league, Europa League final (lost on pen) & Semi-final, 1 FA cup & 2 League cup Semi-finals

That's not too bad, to be honest.
Indeed.

I don't think he was ever the right person and were he not a former player for them he wouldn't have got anywhere near the job, but his record is far from awful.

The competition -Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea in recent seasons have been good -ish.

Only one team can win each competition, many clubs have lost all perspective.

Heard a man utd fan on talk sport yesterday saying Zidane should be offered it till end of season and if he performs he can have it permanently.

Delusional.

There wasn’t exactly a queue of top managers lined up when they appointed Ole. The mistake was keeping him this season when it was clear things were not right last seasons.

It is hard to see who will want the job though. Their best players are all upfront and you cannot fit them all in while central midfield and fullback is distinctly average with Shaw’s form being fragile.

Man Utd have just become the Liverpool of the 90s.

Love it.

(a) would any of our defenders be able to replace their peers at one of the five richest teams? A defence, a team, is more that a selection of individuals. That said, I do believe they'll need to change the defence around. Don't know their youth set up. Lindelöf and Bailly seem to be too injury/mistake prone to warrant two places at theirs.

(b) Both Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are world class players. Is there a way to be able to play both at the same time? If so, you have the core of one of the best teams out there. They do need someone to do the hard work without being in the limelight.

Pogba is world class in a France shirt.

Fernandes is more of an inside forward than a true midfielder. He also had an utterly terrible game at the weekend (according to a friend at the ground) and needs the stability of a strong midfield behind him, as the team goes forward.

EDIT - saw your first question after posting.

Ben Johnson will go on to have a better career than AWB.

I honestly believe Zouma is better than Maguire.

I doubt any interim manager would be allowed to do it, but if it were me I’d sell half of them in January.

Seems a case that you could take out 4 or 5 ‘stars’ and end up with a better team.

I am just loving the Man Ure meltdown. I propose Uncle Avram or Steve Bruce to lead this wonderful club to relegation.
