West Ham transfer target Maxi Gomez has arrived in Valencia ahead of completing a move to the La Liga club.
Gomez, who the Hammers have been chasing since last year told reporters "I am very happy", when asked for his thoughts upon arriving at the city's Manises Airport on Thursday lunchtime.
Although the deal is yet to be completed, with Gomez yet to agree personal terms, the player - flanked by his representatives Luis Alonso and Joshua Barnett from the Stellar Group - admitted that he always intended to join Los Ches.
Valencia are set to pay in the region of £20million for the 22-year-old Uruguay international plus forward Santi Mina. Also going in the other direction is fellow striker Jorge Saenz, also 22, on a season-long loan.
Gomez returned to Spain on Thursday having spent the last few days on a fishing trip with friends, apparently oblivious to the tug-of-war taking place for his signature.
West Ham offered to meet the player's €50million buyout clause but failed to agree payment terms with Celta Vigo, who wanted the entire fee in advance - a demand something the Hammers were either unwilling or unable to fulfil.
United have since turned their attention to alternative targets but have already been frustrated in their attempts to sign Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller, who had told German news outlet Bild that he has no interest in joining West Ham.
