a decent game, nothing too rash, and managed a couple of decent crosses too, as a bonus.

Steady if unspectacular before being replaced in the second half.

Took to the field with a huge grin on his face.

0-1 v Crystal Palace (a) 3rd December 2013
by Staff Writer

Far from his best.

0-1 v Crystal Palace (a) 3rd December 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Pfft...not really cut out at this level. Was let down by a string of poor Diame passes.

0-1 v Stoke City (h) 31st August 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Was that a Cruyff turn I spotted in the second half? Solid enough defensively.

0-1 v Hull City (a) 28th September 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Well played. Desperately unlucky for the penalty.

3-3 v West Bromwich Albion (h) 28th December 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Not a central defender – and it showed.

3-3 v West Bromwich Albion (h) 28th December 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Very poor - out of position - a fish out of water.

0-0 v Newcastle United (a) 24th August 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Good defensively – poor going forward.

0-3 v Chelsea (h) 23rd November 2013
by Trevor Twohig

A few poor passes early on but fine overall.

0-3 v Chelsea (h) 23rd November 2013
by Gordon Thrower

A bit all over the place and his distribution wasn't up to much today.

2-3 v Everton (h) 21st September 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Not as comfortable on the right where Mirallas gave him a tough time.

2-3 v Everton (h) 21st September 2013
by Trevor Twohig

No problems.

1-2 v Fulham (a) 1st January 2014
by Gordon Thrower

Like Linda his unfamiliarity with the role he had to play stuck out a mile.

2-1 v Tottenham Hotspur (a) 18th December 2013
by Staff Writer

A lion. A tiger. Some other large cats too. Immense in defence.

2-1 v Tottenham Hotspur (a) 18th December 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Played supremely well - some excellent tackles.

0-0 v Southampton (h) 14th September 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Ok, but could have been sent off for a rash challenge.

0-0 v Sunderland (h) 14th December 2013
by Trevor Twohig

Did a sound job at the back but got the jitters evey time he crossed the halfway line. Take him on, son!

0-0 v Sunderland (h) 14th December 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Did ok defensively but seemed unusually all at sea going forward.

Looked exhausted towards the end – not surprised he was replaced by Taylor for the last few minutes.

Might have been on a knife-edge after his early booking but seldom looked troubled.

Yet another strong performance from JO’B who, after all his injury woes in previous years, looks to be enjoying his football. And why not.

2-2 v Manchester United (h) 17th April 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Generally good but gave Valencia a bit too much space on occasion.

Lennon didn’t get a kick until he swapped sides.

1-0 v Swansea City (h) 2nd February 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Stuck to his task well on the right of the defence. One sublime moment in the first half created a chance for Nolan.

1-1 v Queens Park Rangers (h) 19th January 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Same as Demel – not the hardest of afternoons at the back and he got forward to keep things ticking over.

2-1 v Norwich City (h) 1st January 2013
by Gordon Thrower

Steady performance at left back from Mr Reliable.

1-2 v Everton (h) 22nd December 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Usual reliable self at left back in the absence of Linda.

3-1 v Chelsea (h) 1st December 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Had some dodgy moments against Moses but stuck to the task and eventually saw off his tormentor.

0-0 v Manchester City (h) 3rd November 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Excellent at right back though his attacking options were limited by a tendency for Benayoun to move inside. Had a fine close to the game at centre-back.

1-1 v Sunderland (h) 22nd September 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Another whose contribution was more in adding to the attack. One lapse in the second half could have proved costly had McClean stayed on his feet.

0-0 v Norwich City (a) 15th September 2012
by Robert Watson

The Norwich wingers seemed to have the beating of him during the game. There was one moment where all he had to do was put the ball in Row Z but instead managed to lose it, which gave us into a nervous moment.

3-0 v Fulham (h) 1st September 2012
by Stuart Jones

Pressed into service on the left due to The versatile Irishman did a fine job deputising for the injured George McCartney at left back - even though he was targetted early doors by Duff & co.

3-0 v Fulham (h) 1st September 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Pressed into service on the left due to Linda’s injury he had an uncertain start with Duff getting the wrong side a couple of times. Inproved as the match went on.

1-0 v Aston Villa (h) 18th August 2012
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced McCartney, 71)
Brought on to replace McCartney. Did a job defensively without providing quite the same threat going forward.

2011/12 Match Notes & Ratings

1-1 v Leeds United (a) 17th March 2012
by James May

Defensively solid but offered very little going forward and gave the ball away far too often.

1-1 v Watford (h) 7th March 2012
by Daniel Prescott

An excellent first half in which he was involved at both ends; sacrificed as the game wore on to allow the more attacking-minded Faubert to remain on the field.

2-0 v Cardiff City (a) 4th March 2012
by Gordon Thrower

A good solid performance from the RB.

0-0 v Crystal Palace (h) 25th February 2012
by Gordon Thrower

An ok match in general but his passing wasn’t great – something he was not alone in in this match.

4-1 v Blackpool (a) 22nd February 2012
by James May

A very solid performance. A decent option going forward in the first half and defended well in the second.

1-1 v Southampton (h) 14th February 2012
by James May

Defensively sound. Tried to offer attacking option down the right but his crossing was rather wayward.

2-1 v Millwall (h) 4th February 2012
by Gordon Thrower

One of his better matches – combined well with Faubert on the right.

2-1 v Millwall (h) 4th February 2012
by James May

Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively and worked well with Faubert down the right. Was unlucky not to score a screamer in the first half.

1-0 v Portsmouth (a) 14th January 2012
by Gordon Thrower

Ok ish defensively but his lack of forward ambition was occasionally both alarming and annoying.

1-2 v Derby County (a) 31st December 2011
by Gordon Thrower

A bit of a ‘mare. Seemed unable to find a team-mate all afternoon.

2-2 v Leeds United (h) 21st August 2011
by Gordon Thrower

Another solid run out. Not much else to say really.

4-0 v Watford (a) 16th August 2011
by Brian Evans

A bit slow on the turn and was beaten for pace a few times, but scored a good goal and was always there when needed. Never quite showed as much attacking nous as in the previous couple of games.

1-0 v Doncaster Rovers (a) 13th August 2011
by Gordon Thrower

Already looks to be a shrewd addition. Got on with it and madesome telling interceptions when required.

1-0 v Doncaster Rovers (a) 13th August 2011
by East Stand Martin

Another good outing; full of commitment and running.

0-1 v Cardiff City (h) 7th August 2011
by Gordon Thrower

Decent start from the Irishman, a particularly good run in the first half suggests that this might be one of the bosses shrewder signings.
