2004/05 Match Notes & Ratings
1-3 v Reading (a) 12th March 2005by East Stand Martin

Seemed even more immobile than usual and his distribution tactic of hoofing it as far as possible was all-too predictable.

1-2 v Preston North End (h) 5th March 2005
by Gordon Thrower

Battled away but when we were down to ten men his hit & hope style of defending just put us under more pressure.
1-2 v Preston North End (h) 5th March 2005
by East Stand Martin

Solid. Never looked in any trouble.
1-0 v Gillingham (a) 22nd February 2005
by Gordon Thrower

Had the sort of aerial battle that you imagine he relishes.
5-0 v Plymouth Argyle (h) 20th February 2005
by Gordon Thrower

Battled bravely in defence and was a danger up the other end at set plays.
5-0 v Plymouth Argyle (h) 20th February 2005
by East Stand Martin

Solid, well taken goal too. Happy birthday mate!
1-1 v Sheffield United (a) 13th February 2005
by East Stand Martin

Poor – especially in the first half when his headers put us under a lot of pressure.

Won a lot in the air and kept it simple on the deck.
1-0 v Cardiff City (h) 7th February 2005
by Wycombe Wicks

A composed game from the ex-Norwich centre half.

Knew he’d been in a battle with Gray who, presumably dissatisfied with his side’s choice of Tuscan Terracotta for shirt colour, seemed intent on relieving Malky of his shirt on every occasion.

1-2 v Derby County (h) 23rd January 2005

Slow and ponderous. Distribution was poor as well. Doesn't seem to be half the player he was before the injury.

Another possibly good performance spoilt by lapses.

Poor, and didn’t match up to the Norwich game. His and Powell’s fault for the third goal.

1-0 v Norwich City (h) 8th January 2005

Clearly loved every minute of this match against his old club and combined well with Ferdinand.
0-2 v Sheffield United (h) 3rd January 2005
by Gordon Thrower

Poor. Shocking distribution too.
2-0 v Ipswich Town (a) 1st January 2005
by Richard Osborne

Mr Bent might not have a new friend.
2-0 v Ipswich Town (a) 1st January 2005
by Gordon Thrower

Loved every minute of the game – he does enjoy matches against Ipswich having scored in the first match.
2-2 v Rotherham United (a) 28th December 2004
by Sicknote

Not sure he was in the game first-half, certainly his inclusion gave us a disheveled look. But not a thing got past him in the second half.
2-2 v Rotherham United (a) 28th December 2004
by Graeme Howlett

Looked lost for too much of the game and wasn't willing enough to take on attackers. Had no real idea who was around him and kept blindly kicking away to the other side. Got some quite vehement abuse from people near me telling him to get off the pitch.
3-2 v Nottingham Forest (h) 26th December 2004
by Graeme Howlett

Good to see him back, and he was probably the pick of the defenders today. Forest made a huge mistake in allowing him to remain unmarked for the corner which led to West Ham's second goal; Malky's powerful header - which looked as if it might had gone in anyway - was eventually thumped home by Teddy Sheringham. In fact looking at our team today, were I an opposing manager I think I'd have told everyone to mark Mackay for he was the only aerial threat at set pieces.
3-1 v Gillingham (h) 23rd October 2004
by Gordon Thrower

Strong again though thankfully the game was effectively won by the time injury forced him to play up front.

by Gordon Thrower

A welcome return.
2-0 v Stoke City (h) 19th October 2004
by East Stand Martin

Shaky start, probably due to not having played for a while. Improved as game went on and looked pretty untroubled.
1-2 v Nottingham Forest (a) 26th September 2004
by Graeme Howlett

Again, a quiet game until the final few minutes. Settling in nicely.
3-2 v Notts County (h) 21st September 2004
by Richard Osborne

We would have lost were it left to the other defenders. Malky looks a class act but can't do it alone.
3-2 v Notts County (h) 21st September 2004
by Gordon Thrower

The most comfortable of our defenders on the night. So far looks a good signing.

1-1 v Ipswich Town (h) 18th September 2004
by Gordon Thrower

Did his best to keep Bent quiet, although the Ipswich forward was a handful. Took his goal well and was a bit unlucky not to double his tally.
1-1 v Ipswich Town (h) 18th September 2004
by East Stand Martin

Scored one, could have had a hat-trick. An excellent and dominating performance from the big centre-half, who looks eerily like Alvin Martin from behind!
1-0 v Rotherham United (h) 14th September 2004
by East Stand Martin

Okay - so it was only Rotherham and it was hardly the sternest of tests but there were signs that his partnership with Davenport could be a major factor in how things develop over the next three months.

(Replaced Mullins, 87) On for too short a time to make a real difference but did well enough in the few minutes he was there.
2-1 v Sheffield United (a) 11th September 2004

(Replaced Mullins, 87) Came on for Mullins, but to be honest I was already fleeing towards the station.
2-1 v Sheffield United (a) 11th September 2004
by East Stand Martin

(Replaced Mullins, 87) Looked steady; not really on the field long enough to warrant an opinion.
