Valon Behrami

Position: Midfielder

Born: 19th Apr 1985, Kosovka Mitrovika

Signed: 23rd Jul 2008 (£5000000)

Previous Club: Lazio

KUMB Awards: Best Signing 2008/09

Alan Curbishley's signings had been mostly experienced players in the 2007/08 season and Behrami's arrival in July 2008 indicated a (welcome) sea-change in transfer policy.

Just 23 when moving to London, Behrami was already a veteran of Serie A, Champions League and international finals (Euro 08).

Highly rated and with the ability to play on either wing or at right-back, the pacy and oft-flamboyant Swiss international promises much.
1-0 v Manchester City (h) 21st February 2009
by Gordon Thrower
Will be missed. Get well soon sir. (6)
1-2 v Bolton Wanderers (a) 21st February 2009
by John Simkin
Spector did not need the kind of protection usually provided for Neill. Fairly quiet game and did not look like he had fully recovered from his injury. (5)
0-1 v Manchester United (h) 8th February 2009
by John Simkin
Another all-action performance who provided excellent cover for Neill. The danger of Ronaldo meant he could make few forages upfield. (7)
0-1 v Manchester United (h) 8th February 2009
by Gordon Thrower
A master class in how to deal with Ronaldo, who was reduced to petulantly moaning at anyone within 20 yards. Neill owes him a pint. (9)
0-0 v Arsenal (a) 31st January 2009
by Gordon Thrower
Another excellent 90 minutes from Pep – he never once let the home midfield settle. On the receiving end of some early “treatment” from the opposition, each foul met with the same phlegmatic and laid-back response as he simply picked himself up and got on with it. Did a fine job helping the skipper out on the right as well. (8)
0-0 v Arsenal (a) 31st January 2009
by John Simkin
Spent most of the match covering for Neill and therefore made very few offensive breaks. One of the most important players in the side at the moment. (8)
2-0 v Hull City (h) 28th January 2009
by John Simkin
Hunted down the Hull midfielders whenever they had the ball. Another very impressive performance by this workaholic. (7)
2-0 v Hartlepool United (a) 24th January 2009
by John Simkin
Another all action performance from this extremely hard-working player. Was always a threat going forward and still found the time to protect Faubert. (7)
3-1 v Fulham (h) 18th January 2009
by John Simkin
Another all action performance from a highly valued member of the team. He only just failed to close-down Konchesky for Fulham's goal. (6)
2-2 v Newcastle United (a) 10th January 2009
by Gordon Thrower
Not quite as effective as of late and he went to sleep for their first goal. (6)
2-1 v Stoke City (h) 28th December 2008

Tireless. Didn’t stop running all day. (7)
0-0 v Portsmouth (h) 15th November 2008
by Gordon Thrower
Got some good bursts in and his runs often ended up with us gaining free-kicks in decent positions. If only we could make more of them count. (7)
1-3 v Bolton Wanderers (h) 5th October 2008
by Gordon Thrower
Must have had a frustrating day – got through loads of work but came away with nothing to show from it. (7)
2-1 v Fulham (a) 28th September 2008
by Gordon Thrower
With both he and Faubert now seemingly in the right positions he is now beginning to show more influence. (7)
3-1 v Newcastle United (h) 20th September 2008
by Alex Shilling
Put some decent crosses in, but didn't really seem involved. (6)
3-1 v Newcastle United (h) 20th September 2008
by Gordon Thrower
A lot of hard work – much of it un-noticed by most. (7)
4-1 v Blackburn Rovers (h) 30th August 2008
by Gordon Thrower
Much better in midfield, he found time and space to get round the bak a lot, something that contributed to the last goal. (7)
4-1 v Macclesfield Town (h) 27th August 2008
by Graeme Howlett
Tenacious - but Faubert looked much better at right back. (6)
0-3 v Manchester City (a) 24th August 2008
by Gordon Thrower
Not a right back for me. Given a rough time by Petrov. (4)
0-3 v Manchester City (a) 24th August 2008
by Alex Shilling
Both he and Neill were taunted by the City wingers. Time after time crosses flew into the box unhindered. (4)
2-1 v Wigan Athletic (h) 16th August 2008
by Nick Bull
Looked good going forward but our defending deep policy curtailed his forages forward. (6)

Impressive debut. Linked up well with Faubert down the right hand side. A few mistakes in second half, but generally played well. (7)
