West Ham's pursuit of Gabriel Barbosa has not gone unnoticed in Brazil, according to fresh reports.

The Hammers were considered to be front-runners in the race to sign the 22-year-old Inter striker, nicknamed 'Gabigol', who is currently on loan with Santos in his home country.

However United are rumoured to be facing new competition for Barbosa's signature from Santos' rivals Flamengo, who are said to have confirmed their interest on Wednesday.

Born in 1996, the 5 ft 9 1⁄2 in forward signed for Inter in 2016 having made the breakthrough with Santos, but has made just nine appearances for the Serie A side since arriving on European shores.

In 2017/18 he was loaned to Benfica but barely featured before returning to Santos, for whom he has scored 27 times since switching allegiances earlier this year.

West Ham's Premier League rivals Everton are one of several clubs also reported to be monitoring Barbosa's situation, according to writer Gianluca di Marzio.
