Kanoute agent hints at move

Willie McKay, agent for Hammers striker Freddie Kanoute has hinted that his client could be ready to sign for London neighbours Tottenham within the next few days.

McKay, speaking to the BBC this morning revealed that he had been in contact with both clubs and that both were already involved in negotiations. Freddie is very keen to go to Tottenham because he feels it would be a great move for him," said McKay, speaking to the BBC this morning (Friday).

"There has been interest from other Premiership clubs, but Freddie believes Tottenham are best suited to him and he thinks he could strike up a good partnership with Robbie Keane.

"Freddie obviously wants to play in the Premiership and Glenn Hoddle has told the Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, that Freddie is the player he wants.

"At the moment it's a question of price and it's down to the two clubs to agree on one, but I think it will be in the region of £4m."

The news of Kanoute's impending departure will come as little surprise to the majority of Hammers fans, who have become used to dealing with summer transfer speculation where the 25-year-old Frenchman is concerned.

However many supporters will be angered by the suggestion that the club are ready to offload Kanoute for a fee as meagre as £4m - just £250,000 more than the Hammers paid for his services three years ago.

McKay added the Hammers were indeed looking for more money for the striker, although suggested that the slump in the market meant the figure quoted was a reasonable one

"West Ham probably would have wanted more and last year they probably would have got more, but it is a buyer's market now," he said.

"However, Tottenham will be very fair and personal terms should not be a problem because there are players at Spurs earning roughly the same as Freddie.

"Hopefully it should be wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. Tottenham are a big club and Freddie is keen to join them."
