Assistant Hammers boss Paul Goddard has revealed that further players may yet be sold - despite the start of the new season being just a week away.
Goddard - speaking on Talksport tonight - revealed that West Ham are still planning to sell players, despite Trevor Brooking's recent statement that there was no pressure to sell any more of the team's most valuable assets.Speaking on the day David Connolly became the club's first signing of the season, the former Hammers and Ipswich striker said:
"Looking around we've lost two very good players recently, and with the transfer deadline still a way away something else could yet happen. It's difficult to plan ahead not knowing who will still be here at the start of the season.
"The spirit in the squad has been fantastic; the boys have been great. Although we're very thin on the ground we're sticking in there together.
"We're looking forward to the new campaign; everyone here is mightily disappointed with last season. We're working hard with the Board and Chairman to give ourselves a real chance.
"Everyone is aware that we have financial restrictions - but if we can get one or two more players in the right positions we'll have a good chance."
Goddard's comments come on the same day that out of favour defender Sebastien Schemmel sensationally revealed that the club were still looking to offload Frederic Kanoute and Joe Cole - comments that will no doubt hasten his exit from Upton Park.
Time will tell whether or not the club receive the offers they require for the pair. Meanwhile Goddard was just delighted to be talking about an incoming player for a change.
"Teams that achieve promotion must score goals," he added. "When you look around our team you do wonder where the goals are coming from, so we need every option we can get up front. And we need variations because we're already 13 players down on last season.
"There's nothing better than having a real goalscorer like David Connolly; with that you know you always have a chance to win games."
