West Ham could still be set to sign Belgian defender Stijn Vreven, despite the club stating earlier in the week that any deal was unlikely.

Vreven, who took part in West Ham's behind-closed-doors 1-0 friendly win against Crystal Palace on Wednesday afternoon returned to his club Kaiserslautern the next day, following a three day trial.

West Ham reported on Wednesday that a deal was unlikely - but not according to the player himself, who insists that he remains in talks with the club over a possible loan deal for the remainder of the season.

Speaking this morning in Dutch paper Utrechts Nieuwsblad, the 30-year-old full-back revealed:

"I suspect negotiations [with West Ham] will take a couple of days.

"The problem is that Kaiserslautern doesn't know what they want to do with me. There is still much to be sorted out."

The newspaper also revealed that Vreven was pleased with his trial, and keen to move to East London - although it would appear that the final decision lies with Kaiserslautern, who remain deep in trouble at the foot of the Bundesliga.
