Hammers chairman Terry Brown has spoken of his delight after Trevor Brooking was awarded a knighthood for his services to sport.

Speaking on whufc.co.uk today, Brown echoed the thoughts of supporters when he said:

"Trevor's contribution to West Ham United and England is unique, and we are enormously proud of his achievements - and the

recognition he has now received.

"As well as his professionalism on the field, where he was intensely competitive while also being scrupulously honest, he has

always displayed great courtesy off it - and been a great ambassador for our club.

"He is quite rightly respected and adored by our supporters, who I am sure will be proud about the honour bestowed upon him."

Brooking also received congratulations from current Hammers manager Alan Pardew, who superceded Brooking in the Upton Park hotseat

last October.

"He has been a fantastic professional in everything he has done," said Pardew, "but the biggest compliment I can pay him is that I

admire him as much as a person as I do a professional.

"He has certainly earned the right to be called a knight."

Brooking becomes only the twelfth footballer to receive a knighthood.
