Moses: the journey East

West Ham have signed former Millwall front man Moses Ashikodi on a free transfer.

17-year-old Ashikodi hit the headlines last April for threatening team mate Mark McCammon with a knife - an event which led to him leaving the New Den 'by mutual consent' just weeks later.

But the highly-rated young forward, without a club since, has been given the opportunity to resurrect his career at West Ham after impressing during a recent trial period.

Academy director Tony Carr, speaking on whufc.co.uk earlier today, said:

"Moses played well in the reserves at Thurrock on Monday night. He is a very young lad, just 17 - and we are going to give him the opportunity to further his career here.

"Everyone deserves a second chance, we have given him that and hope he grabs it with both hands.

"He has been no problem at all in terms of training and discipline. It is early days yet but he has done enough to show us he was worth a deal."
