Roeder denies Vanoli swoop

Hammers boss Glenn Roeder has spoken out to deny speculation linking the Hammers with a move for former Fiorentina defender Paolo Vanoli.

Roeder, speaking to the club's website this afternoon (Monday) was concise and to the point when asked about the club's interest in the left back.

"The whole thing is purely speculation, and there is nothing in it," he said.

Reports from Italy had suggested that Vanoli had already met with club officials, after he (or rather more likely, his agent) told the press that a two year deal at Upton Park was all but wrapped up, despite interest from other club s such as Fulham and Juventus.

But with Roeder's firm denial, it looks as if the link was no more than a figment of imagination in the mind of a less than scrupulous agent.
