Alan Pardew has revealed that an attempt to sign Arsenal's Jeremie Aliadiere has fallen through.

Speaking at the post-match press conference following the 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra, the Hammers boss confirmed that discussions had taken place with Arsenal to bring the young striker to the Boleyn but that the deal would "not be happening".

It was also confirmed that the club had been trying without joy to bring a defender, an area in which the squad is currently lacking cover following a number of injuries and the suspension of Tomas Repka. However Pardew said he was hopeful that long term injury victim Christian Dailly would soon be available for selection.

Meanwhile Matthew Etherington is rated doubtful for Friday's televised clash with Leicester City. Etherington suffered a twisted knee in the first half of the Crewe match and faces a scan to ascertain the extent of the injury.

(Unfortunately due to technical problems with our recording equipment we are unable to bring you our normal full coverage of the press conference. Normal service will be resumed for the Leicester match).
