Former Hammer Fredi Kanoute is being linked with a return to the Boleyn after a two-year spell somewhere in North London.

Kanoute is valued at £5m by his current employers but it is reported that negotiations over the fee will start to take place over the next few days.

Kanoute will of course need no introduction to Hammers fans, originally joining the club from Lyon in 2000 making a scoring debut against Wimbledon in the game mainly notable for the famous DiCanio "goal of the century".

Kanoute is the latest in a number of strikers linked with the club in recent days. These include Charlton's Jason Euell and Southampton's Peter Crouch, for whom a £7m bid is reported to have been rejected.

To these names today's papers have added that of Derby's Grzegorz Rasiak, though Sunderland are also said to be interested in the 26 year-old Pole.

Maybe the most ambitious name circulated so far however, is that of Dutch forward Dirk Kuijt. Kuijt netted 29 times for Feyenoord last term. However Kuijt, an international with 10 Dutch caps, is tied up on a long term contract with the Rotterdam club and would be likely to command a fee in excess of £10m for his services, a figure that might be out of range for the club.
