Hammers in for AJ?

It is being reported tonight that West Ham are set to make a £5m bid for Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson.

Fans favourite Johnson stayed with Palace despite their relegation from the Premiership last season, and signed a new five year deal earlier this term as the Eagles signalled their intentions to hang on to their star man.

But if reports surfacing this evening are correct, Palace are set to have their resolve tested by a £5m bid from the Hammers for the twice-capped England striker, who has scored six times this season from just ten appearances.

Palce currently lie ninth in the Championship, but only one point away from the play-off zone. With a swift return to the Premiership still well within their sights, it would take a very healthy offer for them to agree to part company with the player most likely to fire them back into the top flight.
