West Ham: ins and outs

It's been another busy transfer window at West Ham; just in case you've missed out on any of the comings and goings, here a brief rundown of who is in - and who is out.

IN - Yaniv Katan (Maccaibi Haifa, £100,000)

The deal to bring midfielder-come-striker Katan to West Ham was concluded over the Christmas period, and took effect once the transfer window opened for business. At a mere £100k, the Israeli international like a bargain.

IN - Dean Ashton (Norwich City, £7m)

West Ham made a statement of intent a week ahead of the end of the window by splashing out a club record £7m for England under-21 Dean Ashton. Despite the huge fee Norwich still moaned that they didn't get enough - whilst many West Ham fans moaned that they got too much. Ashton is set to make his debut at the weekend against Sunderland after recovering from a strain, although could be a surprise shout for the trip to Highbury.

IN - Lionel Scaloni (Deportivo La Coruna, loan)

Alan Pardew loves to pull a rabbit out of the hat - the signing of the Argentinian international being the perfect example. Whilst the world and his wife waited for news on deals for Gabri and Stephen Kelly, Pardew quietly arranged the capture of a player with plenty of Champions League and international experience under his belt, thereby ensuring the Hammers wouldn't have to face the ridiculous prospect of playing half a season without a recognised right-back.

OUT - Luke Chadwick (Stoke City, £150,000)

The on-loan Chadwick put pen to paper on a permanent deal with the Potters at the start of January. Considered surplus to requirements by Pardew since promotion.

OUT - Moses Ashikodi (Rangers, free)

The former England youth international failed to make a single appearance for West Ham's first XI despite initially impressing for the stiffs. A short loan spell at Gillingham was curtailed after a sending off before Rangers unexpectedly took him north of the border on a free on January 11. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

OUT - David Bellion (to Lille via Manchester)

A highly-rated youngster that never lived up to his promise, Alan Pardew finally threw the towel in on January 9th by allowing the Manchester United youngster to continue his season in France with Lille. He scored just once in his brief loan spell with the Hammers, against Sheffield Wednesday in the 4-2 Carling Cup win.

OUT - Gavin Williams (Ipswich, £300,000)

Another midfielder considered surplus to requirements, Williams joined Ipswich on January 4th after making his loan spell with the Blues permanent.

OUT - Tomas Repka (Sparta Prague, £750,000)

Some cheered, and some cried (including Tomas himself) - but the name 'Repka' will no doubt remain the subject of many an argument for years to come. 189 games in four-and-a-half years is nothing to be sneezed at, and three managers felt he was good enough to remain as the club's first choice right-back. Family problems finally brought the curtain down on an entertaining career in East London for the feisty Czech.

OUT - Jeremie Aliadiere (returns to Arsenal)

He came, he got injured - and he moaned about not being picked. The young Frenchman returned to Arsenal on deadline day with a possible loan move to Championship side Wolves mooted. Good luck Mr.Hoddle.

OUT - Petr Mikolanda (Rushden & Diamonds, loan)

The tall Czech striker joined his third football league club already this season last week, and made his debut for the troubled League two outfit on Saturday. Mikolanda joins fellow Hammer Tony Stokes at Nene Park.

OUT - Matthew Reed (Barnet, loan)

Young keeper Reid was one of two deadline day signings made by Barnet (the other being former Hammer Stevland Angus, who joins the Bees via Grays Athletic). He moves to Underhill on a month's loan.
