West Ham Utd v Tottenham: half-time report

West Ham are in the driving seat at the break in this afternoon's big London derby.

First half goals from Mark Noble and Carlos Tevez have given the Hammers a 2-0 half-time lead in a game that they must win to retain any hopes - however slim - of retaining their Premiership status.

Argentinian striker Tevez was instrumental in both goals, setting up local hero Noble for the opener before scoring his first for the club later in the half with a beautifully struck free-kick.

Meanwhile Rob Green has been outstanding at the other end of the park, making a number of vital saves in order to preserve United's lead.

Noble - reinstated to the side by Alan Curbishley in the absence of club captain Nigel Reo-Coker - notched his second goal of the season on 16 minutes after he volleyed home from the edge of the box having been teed up superbly by Tevez.

18 minutes later the South American sparked wild celebrations amongst the home supporters when he despatched a curling free kick beyond Paul Robinson from 20 yards - a goal that was marked by Tevez leaping into the crowd before receiving the obligatory booking as a result.

The only sour note for the Hammers was yet another injury to Matthew Upson, who was substituted after pulling up with strain.

More to follow at the final whistle ...
