Aston Villa have agreed to pay £8.5million for England under-21 skipper Nigel Reo-Coker.

West Ham United confirmed this afternoon that they have agreed a fee for the wantaway midfielder, and Reo-Coker will join Villa subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The 23-year-old midfielder is on his way to Villa Park this afternoon in order to begin talks; should all go to plan an announcement is expected within the next 24 hours.

Reo-Coker cost United £500,000 when he signed from Wimbledon in January 2004. He was made captain by Alan Pardew soon after arriving in East London, and went on to become the youngest captain ever to appear in an FA Cup Final.

However during the last year he fell foul of supporters and fellow employees following a number of high-profile incidents, and once United's escape from relegation was confirmed the 23-year-old Londoner was told that he had no future at the club.
