Lyon enter Eidur race

French Ligue One outfit Lyon have entered the race to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The Barcelona striker has been in talks with West Ham over a proposed £8m move, although United's interest has cooled for now due to Gudjohnsen's knee injury which will keep him out of action until September at the earliest.

Lyon - who can offer Gudjohnsen Champions League football - have made their interest known in the last 48 hours, although they are yet to approach Barcelona with a firm bid.

Alan Curbishley revealed yesterday that the Hammers had decided to take a back seat for now.

"Gudjohnsen is not fit and is battling away to get fit, so there is nothing in it at the moment," he said.

"But the transfer window is still open, and we are still active. We're still short in one or two areas."

The Hammers have since been linked with Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka, who is thought to be available for around £10m.
