An injury time winner from Dean Ashton sent the Hammers into the fourth round of the Carling Cup at the Boleyn tonight.

With the tie moments away from extra-time substitute Kyel Reid picked out Ashton on the right hand side of the box and the England candidate fired an unstoppable drive into the bottom right corner of the net.

Of course, the Hammers had been expected to win this tie at a breeze, but a plucky performance from the Championship outfit ensured that it was anything but a cakewalk for Alan Curbishley's side.

There were a number of changes from the team that lost 3-1 at Newcastle on Sunday, with Scott Parker finally making his first-team debut having been on the sidelines since mid-July.

But it was the Championship side who made the early running, although the Hammers went closest in the first half when James Collins saw a header cleared off the line from a corner.

As the game wore on the home crowd began to grow restless until Ashton saved the day in the final minute with his third goal in as many games.
