West Ham Utd v Macclesfield: after 90 mins

Tonight's Carling Cup tie has gone into extra-time after Lee Bowyer saved United's blushes with a late second half strike.

Bowyer struck with just 16 minutes remaining to take the game into extra-time after plucky Macclesfield - who were reduced to ten men a minute from the end of normal time - had led for over an hour.

The Silkmen - who have lost all three of their League games so far this season and sit one place off the bottom of the Football League - silenced the home crowd after just five minutes when Ahmed Deen's 4th minute corner found its way into the net via the head of Gareth Evans.

After the early shock Alan Curbishley's side fought their way back into the game and Freddie Sears and Luis Boa Morte both went close to equalising. But United's best chance of the opening period fell to Dean Ashton who was the width of a crossbar away from levelling the scores on the stroke of half-time.

Unsurprisingly the Hammers - who lost new-signing Valon Behrami after the Swiss defender sustained a facial injury - left the field at the break to a resounding chorus of boos.

As the Hammers pushed on in search of an equaliser Macclesfield began to defend deeper and deeper, and it was no surprise when Bowyer levelled the scores with a close range header with just a quater-of-an-hour remaining.

The goal gave the Hammers a clear boost in confindence and they finished normal time camped inside the Town half despite failing to find a late winner. Macclesfield will play the 30 minutes of extra time a man short after teenage full-back Izak Reed saw red for a second booakable offence.

We'll have more for you at the end of extra time.
