Hayden Mullins has joined the growing list of transfer window departures, joining Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.
The defensive midfielder was West Ham's longest serving player but decided to move south after five years at the club once it was made clear that Gianfranco Zola was prepared to allow him to leave.
The fee is officially undisclosed but is thought to be worth around £2million to West Ham. Portsmouth's Peter Storrie confirmed the deal this morning saying:
"Hayden will add strength to our midfield. Central midfield was an area we needed to strengthen."
Storrie - who also confirmed the capture of Porto's Pele on loan for the rest of the season - added:
"Both players have been on our radar for some time. Tony [Adams] and I decided to move for Hayden on Saturday night. We got hold of West Ham on Sunday morning and I think they were a bit surprised that we wanted to get the deal done so quickly.
"Hayden's an experienced player who has played exceptionally well against us in the past. He’s a guy with immense experience in the Premier League, and that’s what we need in this situation.
“He wanted regular football because he has been in and out of the West Ham side. We’ve been very successful getting players in who have wanted regular football and then blossomed for us when they have been given it."

''Sorry Mark but you are out of order in your assessment of Mullins. Maybe not a world beater but a great servant. His energy helped us to two play-off finals and an FA Cup final. As for Bowyer, in case you had not noticed he is on loan at Brum until the season ends and is then out of contract at Upton Park. So I am afraid even though you may see him as an option it is extremely unlikely he will wear our colours again.
If Davenport moves as is expected and maybe Faubert too then we start to look light on numbers. Hopefully Z has got this covered?
Good luck Hayden and thanks.''

''A long overdue departure, I have never seen what the managers have seen in him. Yes, he may be a workhorse but the only thing 100% about him was that he constantly gave the ball away, shocking distribution. Thanks Hayden for your loyalty but I wont miss you. Bowyer is by far a better option - look at how many goals Bowyer has scored in how many appearances then compare the same stats to Mullins.''

''This deal is going to leave us a bit short of cover in midfield. We only have Parker, Noble, Behrami and Collison with Faubert in reserve (also covering Neill at full back). We need another central midfielder.''

''To be honest I'm gutted, what a work horse. Ok he is in and out of the first team but when he plays he's an unsung hero, always giving 100%. Good luck Mullins and thanks for your loyalty over the past five years.''
