West Ham left-back Joe Widdowson has extended his loan with Grimsby Town until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old full back has been on loan with the League Two outfit since the start of the month and has impressed Grimsby boss Mike Newell - who himself spent six weeks on loan at West Ham as a player in the 1996/97 season - sufficiently to earn the new deal.Widdowson is yet to make a first team appearance for the Hammers but has featured three times for the Mariners, scoring once against Rotherham - the club with whom he spent a month on loan at the tail end of last season.
The news has been received positively by Grimsby fans; Marinerz93, a member of popular Town forum thefishy.co.uk said:
"Joe signing till the end of the season is fantastic. His help has been invaluable to us, it is greatly appreciated and long may it continue."
