Carlton Cole was inches away from marking his international debut with a goal against Spain in Seville tonight.

The Hammers striker, a 75th substitution for Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor rounded Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina moments from the end of the game only to see his goalbound effort swept off the line by Marchena.

England, who also featured United's Matthew Upson and Robert Green for the entire second half - the first time three Hammers have featured in an England team since before the 2002 World Cup - were beaten 2-0 by a goal in either half.

Elsewhere tonight Radoslav Kocav played a full 90 minutes for the Czech Republic who drew 0-0 with Morocco in Casablanca. Jack Collison earned his fourth cap in Wales' narrow 1-0 defeat against Poland (a match played in Portugal) whilst Lucas Neill captained Australia to a goalless draw with Japan in Yokahama.

Young Hammer Zavon Hines, who was recently named in the Jamican squad failed to make the bench for the Reggae Boys' 0-0 draw with Nigeria.
