Wanchope set for Man City

Paulo Wanchope looks destined to sign for Manchester City within the next 24 hours following talks between City and Wanchope's agent.

Wanchope is due to meet City officials today in order to tie up the final details of the transfer, which should be confirmed sometime today or tomorrow.

Details of the fee agreed between the two clubs remain sketchy - reports have fluctuated between 4-6m, although we believe the true figure to be in the region of 4.5m.

City boss Joe Royle, speaking last night following his teams friendly at Burnley said: "There is movement and we are making progress, and I think we will know within the next 48 hours one way or the other.

"I'm pleased with the way things are going but you never like saying things are for certain. All I can say is exactly what I'm telling you - which is the truth that we are very, very hopeful."

City director Chris Bird said simply when questioned: "We are confident the deal will go through."

More on this one as it happens.
