Lampard to be offered captaincy?

Filed: Thursday, 10th August 2000
By: Matthew O'Greel

Midfield star Frank Lampard is being widely tipped to become West Hams new captain for the forthcoming season.

Rumours are suggesting that boss Harry Redknapp may turn to the young England star for his new skipper.

With former captain Steve Lomas unlikely to feature in all of the Hammers matches this season Redknapp was left with the choice of continuing with Paolo Di Canio, or offering the captaincy to another player.

Redknapp feels that Lampard, 22, has matured sufficiently to be offered the job, held in the past by such legendary figures as Billy Bonds and Bobby Moore.
