Dicks looking forward to farewell

Hammers legend Julian Dicks is looking forward to putting on his boots one more time for his farewell appearance at Upton Park in this afternoon's match against Athletico Bilbao.

Dicks, who now spends his time in pursuit of the rather more leisurely activity of golf, has been in training during the last few weeks to ensure he is fit for his farewell this afternoon.

"What I miss most about football is walking out in front of the West Ham supporters," he said earlier. "They were brilliant to me. For 11 years they were my life and I want to give them something back."

It promises to be an emotional affair this afternoon. Although Dicks is only expected to play for around 25 minutes, there is no doubt that the fans present will show their full appreciation for one of the finest left backs the country has ever seen.

The Hammers are expected to field a near full team in their final friendly ahead of next weekends Premiership curtain raiser at Chelsea. Kick off is at 3pm, and tickets - priced 25 each - will be available on the gate.
