Redknapp: Rio's staying put

Hammers boss Harry Redknapp confirmed this afternoon that Rio Ferdinand is staying at West Ham for the forseeable future, in an interview with TalkSport AM.

Redknapp told the station: "It's been a long summer, but Rio will stay a West Ham player this season."

But when asked about the future for Rio at the club, he added cautiously: "It's hard to say. If Juventus, Inter, Read Madrid or Barcelona come in for Rio then it would be hard for me to stand in the boy's way."

But he hit back at claims that West Ham were still considered in some sections of the media as a selling club.

"Why should I want to sell my best players?" he said. "Liverpool, Man.Utd, Chelsea - they don't, so why should we?

"We're a Premiership club - we've got no need to sell anyone."
