Fresh injury scare for Cole

Carlton Cole is a major doubt for next weekend's Premier League clash against Sunderland after limping out of England's friendly with Slovakia this afternoon.

Cole - on himself as a 14th minute replacement for the injured Emile Heskey - lasted just over 20 minutes before pulling up with what appeared to be a groin strain. He was replaced moments later by Portsmouth's Peter Crouch.

The news is a huge blow to Gianfranco Zola who has seen his United side struggle to score goals in Cole's recent absence; the Sunderland game would have marked his return to action after a two-match suspension.

* Matthew Upson started the game for England alongside Chelsea's John Terry in the centre of defence. The other Hammer in the squad, Rob Green, starts on the bench.
