Hammers poised to strike?

Are West Ham about to make their first move in the summer transfer market? Rumours abound in our round up of the very latest transfer gossip.

With Freddie Sears thought to be on his way to Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan rumours of a player swap involving defenders Mark Beevers and Tommy Spurr have arisen.

Left-back Spurr, the Wednesday fans' Player of the Year and centre half Beevers are two of the Championship's most highly rated youngsters. The pair are both rated at around £2million.

Meanwhile fresh rumours regarding Cardiff City's Joe Ledley are suggesting a firm bid has been made by the Hammers this weekend. The midfielder is thought to have been on United's 'wish list' for some time and he would cost in the region of £5million.

Further rumours suggest than Danny Gabbidon, just back from an 18-month lay off could be going the other way as a makeweight in the deal to bring Ledley to East London.

Other names mentioned by the papers as possible signings in recent days include Rennes full back Rod Fanni (the perfect partner for Beevers), 24-year-old Inter striker Luis Jiminez and Middlesbrough's injury-prone defender Matthew Bates.
