The big centre-half, who joined Aston Villa in a deal thought to be worth around £5million just 90 minutes ahead of the 5pm transfer deadline was the second departure from West Ham within the last 24 hours, following Savio's sale to Fiorentina.Despite failing to land Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux - as revealed here on KUMB.com earlier today - West Ham were still in the hunt for a target man right up to the 5pm deadline, although there is no news at present to confirm whether those efforts were successful or not.
Late rumours suggested a possible move for Manchester City's Benjani, whilst Tottenham have been linked with a late bid for Matthew Upson.
