The consortium looking to take control of West Ham United are seeking to do so within a fortnight, according to a journalist from the newspaper that broke the news of their interest.

The News of the World's Paul McCarthy, expanding on the story whilst talking to SkySports this morning revealed that the consortium - whose bid is being handled by American financier Jim Bowe - are looking to do a deal sooner rather than later, with fresh exploratory talks expected within the next 48 hours.

"They will have further talks this week," said McCarthy. "The people involved will come in from New York and speak to West Ham. They want to get it done quickly, they want to get it done within two weeks.

"They'll ask for a 28-day lockdown which means that they can look at the books and examine the financial situation. Then they will attempt to put together a takeover if the figures match their expectations.

"We know that they're absolutely at the forefront of takeover talks and are in a strong position; they've got money from New York and London. James Bowe is very experienced at these kind of things and he's been bropught in specifically as a figurehead for the consortium

"We'll see what happens, but I think that within two weeks there'll be some news."

''Action on the takeover bid should be hastened so as to bring stability to the club and improved results on the pitch. Zola needs massive funds to sign the type of players required to get the Hammers into the Champions League. We can no longer afford to be in the shadow of success.

Our present posion on the table calls for grave concern and more positive action.''

''I just hope the story of the takeover is true as I think we will be in serious trouble come the end of the season.''

''YES! Fans taking over IF it happens is the best way forward for this PROUD club. This is fantastic news.

It just seems to good too be true, to have Irons supporters who have the best interests of the club and to have financial clout as well as having strong business backgrounds/minds can only help bring a feeling of optimism to us fans.

I'm not imaging that there will be massive investment into the club but as long as they develop the youth even further so that they can keep churning out the stars of tommorrow, not just for us but for the British nation teams....

One thing that im hoping they wont say is SOCCER because I have enough of that in Oz...''

''Could be a great thing... and even greater, that they are fans of the club. Fingers crossed.''

''Let hope it's all true. Let's hope we are not too far adrift come the January transfer window as I can't see where the next win is coming from!

We live in hope.''

''Seems too good to be true. Bring it on.... We need someone to buy us badly. Birmingham and Portsmounth will both have extra cash to spend in January and if we don't, we are going down again.''

''Music to my ears. It's about time we got some old West Ham blood back on board to run things in a proper West Ham way!''

''The takeover will NEVER be completed in two weeks. How long has every other takeover taken to be concluded? And this is West Ham remember. This will not be done before Christmas even if there is any truth in it (which is unlikely considering the source).''
