Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been charged with violent conduct following his cowardly attack on Matthew Upson last weekend.
The Stoke defender punched the West Ham captain in the face from behind at the two teams lined up for a free kick deep in West Ham's half during the game which Stoke won 2-1. Huth received no sanction from the referee as the incident was not spotted at the time.
A statement on the FA's website confirmed the charge.
"Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been charged with violent conduct," it read. "The charge relates to an incident involving Huth and West Ham defender Matthew Upson during the Premier League match on Saturday 17 October.
"Huth has until 6pm on Tuesday, 20th October to respond to the charge. A Regulatory Commission will consider the charge on Thursday, 22nd October."
