The Irons' wretched away form continued at Stamford Bridge with a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Chelsea dominated the early proceedings, though it was the visitors who spurned the best chance to take the lead when Mido fed Ilan only for the Brazilian to put his shot over the bar from ten yards.

The miss proved costly as Alex's header from Malouda's put the home side one up on the quarter hour.

However, despite Chelsea's domination of the possession, United equalised on the half-hour. Dyer's throw was flicked by Mikel into the path of Scott Parker who took a touch before putting the ball into the top right corner past debutant Turnbull to send the sides in level at the interval.

Chelsea regained the lead ten minues after the restart when another Malouda cross found the head of Drogba. Malouda himself added a third with fifteen left on the clock.

The score was given a slightly flattering look from the home side's point of view when Green spilled Lampard's shot for Drogba to add his second of the afternoon for the rebound.

The defeat leaves the side in 16th place, three points above the drop zone.
