French striker Sidney Govou is being linked with a a summer move to West Ham.

30-year-old Govou is set to leave French Champions League semi-finallists Lyon this summer with West Ham thought to be in a prime position to capture the international.

Govou - who has played 42 times for his country - started his professional career with Lyon back in 1996 and has remained at the club ever since. However he has been likned with a series of moves abroad in recent seasons having admitted that he would like to try his luck elsewhere before the end of his career.

Although entering his fourth decade, Govou still possesses plenty of pace and plays more as a wide-man these days, as opposed to a striker where he began his career. He is likely to be available on a free transfer this summer.

Other players linked with a move to East London in the past 48 hours include Inter' Nigerian striker Victor Obinna, who has just spent a season on loan with Malaga and Schalke's defensive midfielder Jermaine Jones.

Jones, who ha played three times for Germany has now been cleared to play for the United States and is set to play alongside West Ham's Jonathan SPector at this summer's World CUp finals in South Africa.

''Yet again I am amazed. How can the club purchase any players before a new manager has been found? Surely he will want to bring the types of players he wants into the club. Perhaps one of the two chairmen should be the next manager as they think they know best!''
