Avram Grant reflects on his team's best away performance of the season so far...

Avram: a significant victory in the circumstances?

Yes. It was great for us because for a long time we're on the edge to win games like this. Today we played well and also won.

You've brought in new players and Robbie Keane has shown immediately why you wanted to bring him in. You've had an important few weeks in the transfer market?

I think yes. Before it was not so easy for us as for many games we had half of the squad unavailable. It's not good in the Premier League. Now we have a lot of options, more options and also players that we want.

It's not a secret that we're trying to play football with style, we're trying to pass the ball. Players like Robbie Keane, Wayne Bridge, Gary O'Neil and Demba [Ba] - who didn't play today because he hasn't trained for so long - are good for this style of the game.

Having had those players on board and then the first game after is a victory there must be renewed belief that this may be the beginning of the escape for you?

It's beginners luck! No, they did well today. Robbie Keane was in the right place at the right time for the goal. His positioning is good, he kept the ball for us when we needed it. It's good for us?

Do you feel better equipped to get yourselves out of trouble because of what has happened in the last few weeks?

No, even with this team I believed that if we do the right things this team will succeed. More than this, we want to stay in this league and then I think the future will be very good for West Ham. We are doing it step by step and to do things like this you need the right players - intelligent players and players who can work for the team and know how to play. Nowe we are in a better situation.

You normally keep your emotions to yourself but at the end you went over to the fans and gave them your scarf. Why did you do that?

They asked me after Man Utd [4-0] to give them a scarf after every game! But the supporters are great. What is it... I think it's five hours from London, they follow the team and support the team from the first minute so I think they deserved a victory.

And they seem supportive of you as well? They were chanting your name tonight?

Ah, they've been good for me since the beginning of the season. Maybe the one game, against Liverpool [0-3], they were not happy with the team but I can understand [that] as they were right! But they're always behind me, supporting me and they give me a very good feeling. I must admit that it's touching.
