Duo set for Owls switch

Herita Ilunga and Benni McCarthy are being linked with a joint move to Sheffield Wednesday.

The League One side - who earlier this month appointed Gary Megson as manager - are hoping to lure both players to Hillsborough in an attempt to help their fight against relegation.

The Owls, currently 16th in England's third tier and just six points above the relegation zone view McCarthy and Ilunga, both of whom were left out of Avram Grant's 25-man Premier League squad, as ideal additions to a slim squad.

However any deal will almost certainly include West Ham paying the vast majority of their wages.

Speaking after last night's 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, Megson said: "We are trying to get both players in and the two clubs have been in dialogue for a few days.

"We are obviously facing a battle to convince them to drop down two divisions but we are asking the questions."

Ilunga has made 12 appearances for West Ham this season, being on the winning side just once - in the 3-2 FA Cup win against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile the rotund McCarthy, who recently failed to land a loan move to QPR has featured (briefly) nine times without scoring a single goal.
