Gold denies Jones contact

West Ham United chairman David Gold has insisted that neither he nor partner David Sullivan have spoken with Dave Jones with regards to the vacant managerial position.

The Cardiff City manager was installed as favourite to succeed Avram Grant by some bookies earlier this week when it was suggested that Jones had reached an agreement with West Ham.

However Gold, speaking via his new account on Twitter this morning moved to dampen the rumours when he told his followers: "Despite what you may have read in the papers, we have not spoken to Dave Jones."

Whilst on the face of it Gold's comment may appear to rule out any such offer to Jones, the ambiguity of his message - the failure to disclose who Gold is referring to as 'we' - does not necessarily rule out contact with Jones by an agent acting on behalf of the board.

Meanwhile, the Cardiff City boss refused to be drawn on the link this morning - but also denied that talks had taken place.

"I have not had any contact with them over the job," Jones told the ELA. "I'm not prepared to say anything about the vacancy [as] I’m still employed by Cardiff City Football Club and only thinking of them."
